09.15.07 - The Foresters swept doubles and took four of the six
singles matches to upend Grace College 7-2. However, the match
wasn’t as lopsided
as the score indicates. After sweeping doubles, the Foresters
struggled in singles pulling out three three-setters and one long
two-setter to take home the victory.
Raelyn Althoff, Kendra Ganz and
Jessica Deter were double winners on the day. Althoff and
Stephanie Strong paired for the 8-3 win at #1 doubles and Althoff won
a three-setter 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 at #2 singles.
Ganz and Deter won
8-2 at #2 doubles, then Ganz held on for the 6-3, 0-6, 7-6 victory at
#3 singles and Deter went 7-5, 6-4 for the win at #4.
Other winners
included Katie Sprunger and Liz Hull teaming for the 8-6 win at #3
doubles and Erica Abel outlasting her opponent 6-7, 7-5, 6-4 at #6
singles.
“I thought we really
handled the pressure well today," said Coach Turner. "We could have
very easily lost this match. Had we not won the three-setters, Grace
would have won the match. Hopefully, this will help us in future
matches.”
The win gives HU a 6-2 record overall
and a 3-1 mark in conference play. |
