- The Foresters (5-2, 3-1) started with two doubles wins
and then came through with three singles victories to edge Marian
College 5-4.
Stephanie Strong and Raelyn Althoff teamed for the easy 8-2 win at
#1 doubles, but Haley Neiderhiser and Joni Holsem had to claw their
way to the 9-8 win at #2. "We didn't know how big winning our
#2 doubles' match would be," said Coach Turner
Playing indoors and having only three courts available, Kristen
Lahman (#4), Erica Abel (#6) and Stephanie Strong (#1) were the
first to play their singles' matches. With Lahman and Abel losing,
it was up to Strong to pick up the first singles' win. However,
Strong went down with an ankle injury and had to default.
That
left the match in the hands of Neiderhiser (2), Althoff (#3) and Liz
Hull (#5). Neiderhiser (6-1, 6-4) and Althoff (6-2, 6-4) picked up
their wins, leaving Hull the remaining player on the court. Hull
came through in a tough three-setter, winning 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to give
HU the victory.
"I am
really proud of both teams," said Coach Turner. "This is the first
time both our teams have beaten Marian on the same day. We really
came through when it counted." |
