Artist,
professor to speak at spring colloquium

Huntington University’s
RichLyn Library will host Steve Leeper, instructor in digital media
arts, for the spring “Focus on Excellence” colloquium. The event
will be held at 8 p.m. on April 23 in the Johnson Conference Room of
the library. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be
served. Leeper will present “How Picture Books Saved My Soul.” A
question-and-answer session will follow his lecture.

Ensembles to present
out-of-this-world trip

Join the Huntington
University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble for a musical trip that’s
out of this world in their April 26 spring concert, “Galactic
Inspiration.” Experience an evening of live music from outer space.
The musical journey will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Merillat Centre
for the Arts’ Zurcher Auditorium. Tickets are available through the
Merillat Centre for the Arts Box Office by calling (260) 359-4261.
Prices are $5 for general admission and $3 for students, seniors and
Huntington University faculty and staff.

Lyons,
Martin receive April Peer Awards
Recipients
of the Huntington University Peer Award for
the month of April are Becky Lyons
and Dr. Todd Martin. Bob Holmes and Carl Leatherman, who both serve
in the Merillat Complex for Physical Education and Recreation,
passed the Peer Award to Becky Lyons. Lyons has been
bookkeeper in the Business Office at the university for 15 years.
Twyla Lee,
associate professor of social work and director of the social work
program, passed the Peer Award to Dr. Todd Martin. Martin is
associate professor of English and has
been with Huntington University for seven years.

Gipe
to perform senior recital in piano
Jolene
Gipe, a Huntington University senior from Columbia City, Ind.,
majoring in church music and piano performance with an emphasis in
piano pedagogy will perform her senior recital in piano on April 27
at 7:30 p.m. The recital will be held in the Longaker Recital Hall
of the Merillat Centre for the Arts at Huntington University. Gipe
studies piano under Dr. Patricia Spedden, director of piano studies.
There is no charge for the recital, and the public is invited.

Mississippi.

Martin
attends convention
Brett Jenkins,
Lilly Theiss, and C. J. Hunt traveled to Pittsburgh with Dr. Todd
Martin, associate professor of English, to attend the Sigma Tau
Delta International English Honor Society Convention on March 28-31.
Jenkins presented her poetry, a series titled "I Try to Be Funny,”
and Theiss acted as chair to a session of short fiction. Martin
moderated two sessions, one on 17th and 18th century poetry and one
on William Faulkner. The keynote speakers were David Rakoff and
Sharon Olds.
Sorority offers free
babysitting
Alpha
Gamma Pi Sorority is offering an evening of free
babysitting for children of Huntington University
faculty and staff members from 5 to 9 p.m. on April 27
in the fieldhouse where there will be plenty of room for
the children to play. Games and other activities have
been planned for children of various ages. Supper will
be provided for the children. Contact Alpha Gamma Pi’s
