Holdman to speak from Ghana at breakfast
The
first breakfast of the Huntington University Foundation’s 2006-2007
Breakfast Series will be held on Wednesday, Sept.13, when HU
Foundation President Travis Holdman hosts a unique and interactive
session live from Kumasi, Ghana, describing his work with the
Million Leader Mandate. The breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. in
the Habecker Dining Commons. The cost is $6 per person. Please
invite a friend as first-time guests are not charged. The program
will conclude by 9 a.m. Breakfast meetings are held on the second
Wednesday of each month, September through May. For more

University to host Constitution Day panel
On Sept. 17, the
U.S. will celebrate the 219th anniversary of the signing of the
Constitution by the delegates of the Philadelphia convention. To
commemorate this day, Huntington University will present a dialogue
among HU students and local and regional experts on the subject of
national security and civil liberties, two ideals enshrined in the
Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The panel discussion, titled
“Security and Freedom: A Constitution Day Conversation,” will be
held at 11 a.m. on Sept. 15 in the Longaker Recital Hall of the
Merillat Centre for the Arts. Panelists will include Lena N. Snethen,
Esq., associate director of the American Civil Liberties Union of
Indiana; Robert Vane, communications director of the Indiana
Republican Party; and Amy Richison, chief deputy prosecuting
attorney for the Office of the Prosecutor of Huntington County.

Theatre
company to present 'Waiting for Godot'
The
Huntington University Theatre Company will present “Waiting for
Godot” on Sept. 14, 15 and 16. Originally written for an all-male
cast, the Huntington University production of “Waiting for Godot”
includes three women. Prof. Mike Burnett, director, has worked with
contemporaries of Samuel Beckett, the author of the play. Show times
will be 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and 15, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Sept.
16. All presentations will be featured in the Studio Theatre of the
Merillat Centre for the Arts.
Ticket prices are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and
students, $9 for Huntington University faculty and staff, $6 for
children 13 and younger, and $5 for Huntington University students.

Innovation
Mapping is first incubator resident
Venture
Works, Huntington County's new entrepreneur support center, has
announced that Innovation Mapping, a full-service geographic
information system company, has been selected as the first resident
of the Venture Works new business incubator at 2031 College Ave. in
Huntington. An open house is planned for Sept. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m.
at the incubator. The business community and the public are invited
to attend.
Kay
Schwob, director of the Huntington University Enterprise Resource
Center, which administers Venture Works, made the official
announcement. "We're really thrilled to have Innovation Mapping as
our first resident,” she said. “Venture Works was created to spur
new business growth in Huntington County, with an emphasis on
high-performance, new technology companies, and the advanced GIS
technology represented by Innovation Mapping is a perfect match for
our mission."

Martin
presents paper
In June, Dr.
Todd Martin, associate professor of English, presented a paper,
“Cultural Identity and the Haitian Diaspora in Edwidge Danticat’s
‘Krik? Krak!,’” at the International Conference on the Short Story
in English held in Lisbon, Portugal. A longer version of the essay
will be included in a forthcoming book titled “Cultural
Representation and the Short Story Sequence.” Further, he also
attended the Mid-Atlantic Creative Nonfiction Summer Writer’s
Conference, for which he wrote and workshopped his essay, “Boy Meets
Girl,” about his relationship with his oldest daughter. One result
of his participation was that he was asked to be a regular
contributor of book reviews for Publisher’s Weekly.
