The FUSE to present Paul Wright in concert

Huntington University’s
105.5 FM The FUSE will present Paul Wright in concert Nov. 18 at
7:30 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the
Arts. Wright’s unique sound blends together several different
genres, which are evident in his music. “I’m a singer-songwriter who
writes pop songs on the acoustic guitar, but I’m also heavily
influenced by so many other styles,” Wright said. “I listen to
hip-hop, reggae, alternative rock, old school jazz and the rest, and
it’s all absorbed into my music.” Ticket prices are $8 for general
admission, $5 for Huntington University students or $10 at the door.

Fall colloquium to feature professor, illustrator
Huntington
University’s RichLyn Library will host Bryan Ballinger, assistant
professor of digital media arts, for the fall “Focus on Excellence”
colloquium. The event will be held at 8 p.m. on Nov. 13 in the
Johnson Conference Room of the library. Admission is free. Light
refreshments will be served.
Ballinger, a nationally recognized illustrator, will present “An
Artistic Journey: From Child to Adult, and Back Again.” A
question-and-answer session will follow his lecture. Huntington
University began the Focus on Excellence colloquiums in 1998.
Presenters have included everyone from authors to a Civil War
reenactment/singing group.

Gustafson
to lecture about laser applications
At
4 p.m. on Nov. 10, Huntington University will host Dr. Terry L.
Gustafson from the Ohio State University in a Christians in
Scientific Careers Seminar Series. The presentation is titled
“Analytical Applications of Lasers: From Femtoseconds to Chemistry.”
The lecture is free and open to the public.
Gustafson
is the director of the Center for Chemical and Biophysical Dynamics
at the Ohio State University. The event will be held in Hiner Hall
of the Science Hall. Refreshments will be served.

Choirs to
perform in collaborative concert
The
choirs of Huntington University, Columbia City High School and Ben
Davis High School from Indianapolis, along with the Huntington Area
Children’s Choir and the Huntington University Orchestra, will be
featured in “O Clap Your Hands,” an inspirational night of music
composed by John Rutter, on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The concert will be
held in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts
on the Huntington University campus. For ticket information at the
Merillat Centre for the Arts, call the box office at (260) 359-4261
Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets will be $5
general admission and $3 for students, seniors and Huntington
University faculty and staff.

theater space

Updike, Davenport attend forum
Prof. Connie Updike, assistant professor of recreation
management, and Jody Davenport, adjunct instructor in
physical education, attended the Indiana Association for
Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance
Conference, Nov. 1-3, in Indianapolis. The conference
was attended by university, college, private and public
school, physical education, health, dance and
recreational professionals throughout the state.
Election news
Perry Collins, director of the Huntington University
EXCEL program, retained his seat on the Roanoke Town
Council. Collins was
appointed to the town council in October 2005 and
currently serves as president.
Huntington University Foundation President Travis
Holdman won a seat on the Wells County Council. Holdman
told the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette that
he "looks forward to working
with the County Council and the commissioners to get
Wells County on the road to economic development."
Students, faculty attend meeting
On Sept. 20-23, a group of 11 HU history majors (Arika
Bowles, Wes Byler, Ben Decker, Christianne Gates,
Brandon Harnish, Jessica Hollopeter, Elizabeth Holtrop,
Mathew Kendig, Micah Kunze, Brad McDaniel, and Naomi
Woods) accompanied by the history faculty (Dr. Dwight
Brautigam, Prof. Bill VanDoodeward, Dr. Paul Michelson,
and Dr. Jeff Webb), attended the 25th fall meeting of
the Conference on Faith and History, held at Oklahoma
Baptist University. The Conference on Faith and History,
founded in 1967, is an affiliate of the American
Historical Association and brings together historians
interested in the relationship of the Christian faith to
historical studies.
The meeting was divided into two sessions: an
undergraduate conference and the regular professional
conference.
