HU to
observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Huntington University
will observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a commemoration service
that will feature the Rev. Michael Latham, president of the Fort
Wayne-Allen County branch of the NAACP, as the keynote speaker.
Preeminence, the university’s worship ensemble, will provide music
for the event. The service will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 21 in
the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. The
event is free and open to the public.

Four Foresters earn
national rankings
In
the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) NAIA
national rankings, four Huntington University Forester tennis
players were listed among the top 50 in the nation.
Junior Stephanie
Strong and sophomore Raelyn Althoff, Huntington's #1 doubles team,
was ranked 18th nationally.
On the men's side, senior Tyler Moore and sophomore
Gonzalo Vivas were ranked #25 in the nation in doubles after their
strong showing at the ITA Midwest Region Tournament last fall where
they finished second.

competition announced
Venture Works is a
resource center for entrepreneurs established by Huntington County
United Economic Development (HCUED), in partnership with Huntington
University, Northeast Indiana Innovation Center (NIIC), Huntington
County Commissioners, and Huntington County Chamber of Commerce.
Venture Works announced today its second annual Huntington County
Business Plan Competition with prizes for winning competitors
totaling $10,000.

Center for
Leadership Studies receives grants
The Huntington University Foundation has received a $10,000
grant from the Huntington
County Community Foundation and a $15,000 grant from the
Wells County Foundation.
“The Center for Leadership Studies was initiated by the Huntington
University Foundation board of directors in response to the common
issue revolving around the lack of training and the perceived
leadership crisis looming for the next generation in our
communities, businesses and churches,” said Travis Holdman,
president of the Huntington University Foundation’s board of
directors. The Center for Leadership Studies will develop and
produce curriculum for leadership development. The curriculum will
have two separate orientations: faith-based and values-based.

Professors attend math meetings
Drs. Bobbi
Buchholz, Francis Jones, and Win Wetherbee attended the national
Joint
Mathematics Meetings in San Diego, Calif., on Jan. 5-9. In
addition to attending various sessions of the meetings, Buchholz and
Jones also participated in the annual dinner meeting of the
Association of Christians in the Mathematical Sciences. In addition,
Jones took a mini-course on Galois Theory.
