University will host the Presidential Symposium on Christ-Centered
Higher Education on March 5. Events include chapels, a prayer
breakfast and worship as well as plenary, question-and-answer and
response sessions.

Chapel
to be named in honor of Fetters
The
prayer chapel in Huntington University’s
new residence hall will bear
a well-known name on campus and in the community. The chapel will be
called the Paul R. Fetters Chapel after Dr. Paul Fetters, scholar,
theologian and pastor. In selecting the name, the Huntington
University Board of Trustees acknowledged that Fetters has “devoted
his life to the service of the Church of the United Brethren in
Christ and to Huntington University.”

Global Vision to sponsor GO
Week
Huntington
University’s student missions organization, Global Vision, will
sponsor Global Opportunities Week on Feb. 26-28.
The
public is invited to attend an ice cream social at 8:30 p.m. Feb. 26
at Norm’s Place in the upper level of the Huntington Union Building
and a chapel service at 9:30 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Zurcher Auditorium
of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Missionaries and mission agency
representatives will be on hand at the ice cream social to answer
questions. Good Humor-Breyers® Ice Cream in Huntington donated the
ice cream, and Sodexho Dining Services donated the toppings.

University
collects Easter baskets for SCAN
The Northeast
Indiana Alumni Directors Consortium is hosting its annual Easter
Basket Drive through March 17. Baskets collected from area colleges
and universities, including Huntington University, will be donated
to the Stop Child Abuse and Neglect organization. Businesses or
members of the community may contribute Easter baskets filled with
commercially-wrapped candy items (nothing homemade), toys, books,
games, etc. Filled baskets should be wrapped in cellophane bags.
Donations of individual items also would be appreciated. Baskets and
items to fill baskets may be brought to the office of Margaret
Roush, director of alumni relations, on or before March 17.

Huntington to host
C.S. Lewis program
Huntington
University will host C.S. Lewis: A Commemoration from 7 to 9 p.m. on
Feb. 26 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the
Arts.
The event
will celebrate the delivery of Lewis’s lectures at the University of
Durham in 1943. Those lectures were subsequently published as
“The Abolition of Man” and also provided the ideas behind his third
science fiction book, “That Hideous Strength,” completed in
1943. These works will be explored in the context of commemorating
Lewis’s life and contributions to Christian thought and literature.

Baseball team in
third year of reading program
Huntington
University’s
baseball team
has begun the third year of its literacy program in area elementary
and middle schools. In 2005, former player Lance Chrisman, a former
vice president for Verizon, contacted head coach Mike Frame about
the team participating in the Verizon Reads program. Since its
inception in 1999, the program has raised millions of dollars toward
literacy programs across the nation.

Huntington Frozen
Four seeks participants
The
second annual Huntington Frozen Four will hit the road on March 2.
Organized
by 2004 Huntington University graduate Rick Hammer, the four-mile
race will start at 3:30 p.m.
Registration
will begin at 2 p.m. at the Huntington University Merillat Complex
for Physical Education and Recreation.
The first
150 entrants will receive Huntington Frozen Four T-shirts. There
will be refreshments and an awards presentation at 4:45 p.m. in the
fieldhouse. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female
winners in the Frozen Four as well as to the overall age division
winners.

Zezula
wins Pathfinder Award
Dr. Pat Zezula,
retired professor of physical education, was honored with the
Pathfinder Award from the Indiana Association for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance. The award was established to honor
members of the Indiana AHPERD and the National Association for Girls
and Women in Sport who have and/or continue to advocate, recruit and
enhance opportunities for girls and women in sport and sport
leadership.
Essay by Martin to be
published
Dr. Todd Martin,
associate professor of English, was recently informed that his
essay, “Ezili and the Subversion of the Holy Virgin in Edwidge
Danticat’s ‘Breath, Eyes, Memory,’” has been accepted for
publication in Literature and Belief, a journal published by
Brigham Young University. He also was asked to participate in an
upcoming roundtable at the American Literature Association. The
roundtable will focus on teaching E. E. Cummings about whom Martin
has published a number of articles; his working title is “Is as an
Action Verb: Cummings and the Act of Being.”
Davenport attends
conference
Feb. 7-8, Jody
Davenport, instructor in physical education, attended the annual
gathering of the Higher Education Meeting for Indiana Health &
Physical Education Professionals at McCormick’s Creek State Park.
The purpose of the meeting was to share program ideas, discuss
professional issues pertinent to physical education teacher
education (PETE) specialists, and to revisit issues relating to PETE
standards and student assessment. Also, presentations demonstrating
the use of software to augment program and student assessment,
student teacher feedback, and monitor undergraduate development,
revealed contemporary methods of technology integration.
