Who's
Who honors 20 Huntington students
The
2008 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities
and Colleges will include the names of 20 students from Huntington
University who have been selected as national outstanding campus
leaders. Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual
directory have included the names of these students based on their
academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in
extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

Graduate School consolidates
programs
Huntington
University’s Graduate School will consolidate two programs into one
new program. The Master of Arts programs in pastoral ministries and
discipling ministries will be merged to form the new
Master of Arts in ministry leadership
program.
In
addition, the university’s Graduate School of Christian Ministries
will now be referred to as the Graduate School and will encompass
the new program, the
online Master of
Arts program in youth ministry leadership, the
new graduate
counseling program, the
Master of
Education program, a diploma in pastoral leadership
program and continuing education courses.

Honors recital to showcase
top musicians
The
annual Longaker Honors Recital at Huntington University will
showcase six of the university’s top musicians on April 4. The
recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the
Merillat Centre for the Arts.
The event is open to the public, and admission is free.
Each musician was chosen in a rigorous audition process. The
performance includes three pianists, two vocalists and one
guitarist.

HU unveils new
motorcycle license plate
The
Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles has released a special recognition
motorcycle license plate for Huntington University. The design
features the university’s athletic logo, an “H” with an ax in the
middle. An authorization form is needed to purchase the special
recognition plate from the Bureau of Motor Vehicles office. To
obtain the form, log on to
www.huntington.edu/plate.htm.
Specialty plates are available for a number of organizations within
the state, and all require some additional fees. The Huntington
University plate is being offered with the minimum required $15
administrative fee assessed by the BMV. No extra fee will be
collected by Huntington University.

Professor to
address online gaming economy
Edward
Castronova, associate professor of telecommunications at Indiana
University, will speak as part of Huntington University’s
Forester Lecture Series at 8
p.m. on March 25 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre
for the Arts. His presentation will explore the world of online
games and the state of human interaction among game participants.
Huntington University presents the Forester Lecture Series each
semester. The lectures are designed to bring interesting people and
topics to the attention of students and the regional community. All
lectures are open to the public free of charge.

Youth camp to
present 'Guys and Dolls Jr.'
Are
you looking for a different kind of summer camp? This summer, the
Huntington University Department of Theatre Arts will host its third
Huntington University
Summer Theatre Youth Camp. From
June 25-July 19, campers entering grades kindergarten through 12 in
the fall will learn basic theatrical training from theatre
professionals and perform a fully produced musical theatre
production. This summer’s performance will be “Guys and Dolls Jr.,”
and every camper will have a part.

Killian to perform
faculty recital on March 27
Huntington
University lyric soprano, Joni Killian, will perform a recital,
“Songs of Night and Day,” at 7:30 p.m. on March 27 at the Zurcher
Auditorium in the Merillat Centre for the Arts. Killian is an
adjunct professor in the
Department of Music at
Huntington University where she teaches applied voice, aural skills,
class voice, opera workshop and diction. She also serves as the
director of the Women’s Chorale.

What does it mean
to be Christ-centered?
Spedden
serves as piano judge
Dr. Patricia
Spedden, director of piano studies, served as the piano judge for
the 2008 Ball State University concerto competition in Muncie, Ind.,
on Jan. 27.
Ballinger featured on Web
site
Bryan Ballinger,
assistant professor in digital media arts, was the featured artist
on
ParableComic.com
on March 3. Parable is a graphic novel anthology dealing with
Christian themes. Ballinger has a story in the anthology that will
be released later this year.
Lee, MacDonald attend
conference
Department of Social
Work faculty Twyla Lee and Carla MacDonald attended the conference
for the Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program Directors
in Destin, Fla. It was the 25th anniversary of the
organization in celebration of excellence in social work
education. Sessions were attended that covered the broad spectrum of
activities related to teaching, practice, research and
education. Both professors met, discussed and dialogued with
participants regarding the implications of the Educational Planning
and Assessment System standards for the social work program
accreditation process. More than 800 members of the organization
were in attendance.
English students present
work
Dr. Todd Martin, associate professor
of English, accompanied four students to the Sigma Tau Delta
International Honor Society Convention, held in Louisville, Ky.,
from March 6-9. During the convention, three students presented
their work: Senior Leslie Newton presented “Characters in Fragments:
Dissolution of Personality in ‘Mrs. Dalloway’”; senior Brett Jenkins
presented poems from a collection titled “Escape Plans,” which she
developed in an independent study with Dr. Del Doughty; and senior
Anna Grace Jeter presented her essay, “Searching for Divine Romance
in the Midst of the ‘Shadowlands’: Goethe’s Faust in Light of C. S.
Lewis’ Concept of ‘Joy.’” Junior Stephanie Ping also attended the
convention.
