Horizon
Scholarship recipients selected
The
interview selection committee for the Horizon Leadership Program
has chosen the first six students who will enroll at Huntington
University in the fall of 2008.
The
Horizon Leadership Program is a partnership between Huntington
University and Youth for Christ with the goal of creating a more
ethnically and culturally diverse campus.
The
Horizon Leadership Program will encourage the holistic
development of these student leaders through “CAPSS” – community
service, academics, professional/leadership development,
spirituality and socialization.

HU certified as 'Best Christian
Workplace'
The
Best Christian Workplaces Institute and Christian Management
Association has certified Huntington University as a 2008 Best
Christian Workplace.
“We are honored
to be certified as a Best Christian Workplace,” said Julie Hendryx,
director of human resources and auxiliary services. “We are
appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the employees that
serve at Huntington University. It is wonderful to work among
fellow believers in a Christ-centered environment.”
The certification is the result of
Huntington University’s participation in the 2008 Best Christian
Workplaces Survey.

Nalliah to present annual faculty lecture
Huntington
University’s
Dr. Ruth Nalliah will deliver the annual Forester Lecture Series
faculty lecture on April 29 at 7 p.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of
the Merillat Centre for the Arts.
Nalliah,
professor of
chemistry, was chosen for
the honor after a competitive review process. She will present “From
Monsters to Tree Trunks: Exploring Relationships between Faith and
Science.”
Her presentation will explore faith-science relationships, often
seen as problematic and perplexing by the general public, and will
identify ways in which the disciplines of theology and science can
be mutually beneficial.

Mathematics
competition winners announced
On
April 23, Huntington University held its second annual Middle Grades
Math Competition. This was largest of all the competitions to date,
including high school. The competition was held in the Zurcher
Auditorium of the Merillat Center for the Arts on the Huntington
University campus. There were 128 sixth through eighth grade
participants. The students competed in three rounds: a written test,
an individual quick-answer round and a team round. Scores were
tallied for each team and each individual.

Graduating seniors
present gallery exhibit
Huntington
University
is highlighting the artistry of four seniors through the Graduating
Visual Arts and Digital Media Arts Majors Exhibit titled “Telling
Stories.” The Robert E. Wilson Gallery in the Merillat Centre for
the Arts is featuring the exhibit through May 9. An artist reception
will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 3.
Tyler Welker, a
digital media arts major from Wooster, Ohio; Neil Zehr, a digital
media arts major from Elkhart, Ind.; Kari Clark, a graphic design
major from Columbus, Ind.; and Jonathan Enck, a fine arts major from
Warsaw, Ind., all have work in
the exhibit.

Ballinger to give
presentation in Nappanee
Bryan
Ballinger, assistant professor of digital media arts for Huntington
University, will give a presentation at 2 p.m. on May 4 at the
Nappanee Public Library. The library is located at 157 N. Main St.,
Nappanee, Ind.
His lecture will
cover his journey for creating art for children’s media.
Ballinger’s
specialty is in the design and illustration work of digital media
including 3-D computer generated imagery skills in modeling,
texturing, lighting and animation. He has more than 13 years of
experience in this area focusing on graphics for CD-ROM titles, web,
film, video and print.For

What does it mean

National
Day of Prayer observance
The pastors in the city of Huntington will host a prayer
service commemorating the National Day of Prayer on
Thursday, May 1. The event will be held from noon to 1
p.m. in the rotunda of the Huntington County Courthouse.
The public is invited to attend this event. For more

O'Donnell's book inspires Bright
Jim O’Donnell’s
book “Letters for Lizzie" served as inspiration for a
devotional by Vonette Bright. Bright and her husband, Bill,
founded Campus Crusade for Christ in the 1950s.
Michelson publishes
articles
Dr. Paul Michelson,
distinguished professor of history, recently published two
articles. The first, titled "Hrisovul, 1941-1947: Scholarship
in a Time of Crisis," Revista Arhivelor, Vol. 84 (2007), Nr.
3-4, pp. 235-248, discusses the history, contents and contributions
of the Romanian archival journal Hrisovul, which was
published during World War II and after ceasing with the Communist
takeover of Romania. Revista Arhivelor is the journal of the
National Archives of Romania. His second article was "The Historical
Movement of the 19th Century and Some Considerations on the
Development of Romanian Historiography," published in the Revue
des Etudes Sud-Est Europeenes, Vol. 45 (2007), pp. 307-314. This
study is part of his ongoing history of Romanian historiography from
1880 to 1947.
