Alumnus
to become judge in Lake County
The
investiture for Gary resident, Calvin Hawkins, a 1967 graduate of
Huntington University, will be held at
2:30 p.m. in the East Chicago Courthouse.
Hawkins will become a judge in the Civil Division of Lake County
Superior Court. He will succeed Judge Robert A. Pete, who died March
6.
Huntington University President Dr. G. Blair Dowden will offer
greetings while Gov. Mitch Daniels will officiate the investiture
ceremony.

graduate joins Marine Corps
Tiffany
Lloyd, a 2001 graduate of Huntington University, was beginning her
third and final year studying for her Master of Divinity degree in
psychology and counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological
Seminary when Hurricane Katrina struck. She evacuated to
Gainesville, Fla., and then to Moorestown, N.J., with a family from
her church, Paul and Peggy Ferraro.
Paul mentored Lloyd
as she searched for a job after finishing her seminary degree
online. He suggested that Lloyd join the United States Marine Corps
because of her discipline, love of exercise, opportunities for
travel and leadership training.

Wickersham
to report on Indiana economics
Huntington University Foundation’s 2007-2008 Breakfast Series
will feature Mark Wickersham, Huntington University alumnus and
northeast regional office director of the Indiana Economic
Development Corporation. Wickersham will report on the state’s
efforts for economic development in the area.

leadership major completes PRIME
Kyle
Brenneman, a senior from Spencerville, Ohio, is completing his
PRIME experience in Appleton,
Wis. As a
worship arts intern, Brenneman is responsible for a variety of tasks
on a day-to-day basis at Appleton Alliance Church -- anything from
planning services, leading rehearsals, setting up the stage, playing
instruments, as well as a wide variety of technical work.

of Music to hold band invitational
Director
Scott Hippensteel and the Huntington University Wind Ensemble with
will host the Fifth Annual Band Invitational on Oct. 9.
Crestview Middle
School Eighth Grade Band with Douglas McElhaney, director; the
Riverview Middle School Seventh/Eighth Grade Band with James Court,
director; and the Huntington North High School Concert Band with
Thaine Campbell and John Gardner, directors, will join the
university’s Wind Ensemble.

Senior
passes actuarial exam on first try
Kevin
Keller, a senior at Huntington University, passed his actuarial exam
in the spring of 2007 with a score of nine
out of 10.
The
test has an emphasis on calculus, mathematical statistics and
probability. With a score of nine, Keller, a
mathematics major from
Strasburg, Pa., exceeded the minimum passing score of six. The
Society of Actuaries allows only 30-40 percent of test takers to
pass to keep the demand for actuaries high.

Dr. Mark Fairchild
Michelson serves as chair
Dr. Paul Michelson,
distinguished professor of history, served as general chair for the
Fifth International Congress on Romanian Studies, held in Constanta,
Romania, with approximately 250 participants. Interviews with
Michelson about the congress appeared in Jurnalul National
and Agora. He also did several radio and TV
interviews.
O'Donnell to be featured
speaker
Jim
O’Donnell, associate professor of business, will be the featured
speaker at the Church Women United of Fort Wayne and Allen County’s
44th Annual Interfaith Luncheon. The event will be held at noon on
Oct. 8 at Hall's Guest House, 1313 W. Washington Center Road, Fort
Wayne.
Auxiliary to hold garage
sale
The Huntington
University Women’s Auxiliary 18th annual garage sale benefit for
Miller and Meadows halls’ lounges will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Oct.
19 and 8 a.m. to noon on Oct. 20 at the university’s Maintenance
Building on the corner of Fruit and Himes streets. The auxiliary is
requesting donations for the sale. Mark clean, usable items clearly
with reasonable prices and bring them to the Maintenance Building
between 7 a.m. and noon on Oct. 19. (If necessary, items may be
dropped off between 3 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 18.)
