Bernbaum,
Doughty to address class of 2009
Huntington
University will hold its 111th commencement exercises at 3 p.m. on
May 16 on the front campus, weather permitting. The annual
commencement address will be given by Dr. John Bernbaum, founder and
president of Russian-American Christian University in Moscow,
Russia. His address is titled “Flying Upside Down.” The public is
invited to attend the commencement ceremony. Dr. Del Doughty,
Huntington University professor of
English, will deliver the baccalaureate sermon to graduates and
their parents at 10:30 a.m. in the Zurcher Auditorium of the
Merillat Centre for the Arts. Doughty’s address is titled “Chapter
18: In Which Dominican Del Learns Something about la justicia.”

Comcast partners with
Huntington University
Comcast, Huntington
University, Huntington North High School and the City of Huntington
will hold a joint press conference at 11 a.m. on April 23 in the
lobby of Huntington University’s Merillat Centre for the Arts to
announce a new programming partnership in Huntington County.
Representatives from Comcast, the university, the high school and
the city will be available to answer questions and to debut the
technology on a large-screen TV. The public is invited to attend
this event. Customers can watch programming from Huntington by
tuning into the On Demand library, clicking on “Get Local” and then
“Community.” New programming will be available every month
including student-produced news, interviews with city
administrators, and student film projects.

Who's Who honors 20
Huntington students
The
2009 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities
and Colleges will include the names of 20 students from Huntington
University who have been selected as national outstanding campus
leaders. Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual
directory have included the names of these students based on their
academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in
extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

DMA students to present senior exhibit
Huntington
University will highlight the creativity of five seniors through the
Graduating
Digital Media Arts Majors Exhibit. The Robert E. Wilson Gallery
in the Merillat Centre for the Arts will feature the exhibit from
April 22 through May 5. An artist reception will be held from 6 to 8
p.m. on April 25. The Graduating Digital Media Arts Majors Exhibit
is open to the public. The Robert E. Wilson Gallery is open weekdays
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., before and after all Merillat Centre

Alpha Chi students awarded scholarships
Three members of
the Huntington University chapter of Alpha Chi National Honor
Society were awarded scholarships at the National Convention of
Alpha Chi National Honor Society April 2-4 in Indianapolis. Will
Braun, a senior
English
major from St. Cloud, Minn., was named the winner of an Alpha
Chi National Benedict Fellowship for graduate study; Chris Sutton, a
senior
history major from Huntertown, Ind., won the Region V Graduate
Fellowship; and Caitlynn Lowe, a junior English major from Bedford,
Ohio, was the winner of the Region V Undergraduate Scholarship
competition.

Holtrop, Schownir receive history awards
The
Huntington University
Department of History presented awards to two students during a
department dinner on April 8. The History Department faculty
selected Elizabeth Holtrop and Matthew Schownir as this year’s
recipients of the Jack P. Barlow Sr. History Book Prize based on
their outstanding performance in Great Issues in American History, a
seminar required of all history majors. The recipients each will
receive $200 to be used for books for their personal library.

the Legal Profession”: April 21, 3:30 p.m., Lowe-Brenn
Hall, room 268. Adrian Halverstadt, a Huntington
University alumnus and attorney at DeLaney Hartburg Roth
& Garrott LLP, will discuss the shape of the legal
profession and identify careers that are available to
students with a law degree. This will be especially
helpful to freshmen and sophomores who are still in the
initial stages of their thinking about life after
