Smith to
present 'Night of Physics'
Dr.
Gerald D. Smith, Huntington University professor of
physics
and
chemistry,
will present a “Night of Physics: Favorite Demonstrations – The
Grand Finale” on April 30 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Hiner Hall of the
Science Hall at Huntington University. Demonstrations include the
Rocket Cart, Bed of Nails, Tablecloth Pull and many more. The
presentation is free and open to the public.

Coffman to speak at
spring colloquium
Huntington
University’s RichLyn Library will
host Rebecca Coffman, professor of art,
for the spring “Focus on Excellence” colloquium. The event will be
held at 7:30 p.m. on April 28 in the Johnson Conference Room of the
library. Coffman’s presentation, “Il Bottega di Italia (The Italian
Workshop),” will discuss the experience of her summer in the heart
of Tuscany, Italy, at the La Meridiana art studio. A
question-and-answer session will follow her lecture. Admission is
free, and parking is available in the lot adjacent to the library.

Spring Work Day meets
community's needs
Huntington
University’s Joe Mertz Center for Volunteer
Service sponsored Spring Work Day on April 18. Twenty-six
teams comprised of 213 students, three faculty and three staff
completed work projects at 17 sites in Huntington. “The
sites were very excited and thankful for all the work the students
completed," said Laura Groth, program coordinator for the Joe Mertz
Center and a junior elementary

Leadership Luncheon to feature Holdman
On
April 30, the Huntington University
Center for Leadership will sponsor a leadership luncheon
open to business and community leaders. The luncheon will feature
Travis Holdman. Holdman is a licensed attorney, Indiana senator and
bank consultant. He brings a variety of views from his experience as
a former bank CEO, his time spent serving as deputy prosecutor as
well as county director for human services. Holdman also has done
mission work overseas. His presentation is titled “The Leader’s

Wright recognized as volunteer of the year
Fort
Wayne’s Primetime Community Center has recognized Chynna Wright, a
2007 alumna of Huntington University, as the 2009 Primetime
Volunteer of the Year. Wright was given the honor at the 4th Annual
Primetime Celebration Banquet on April 18. “Chynna was selected to
receive the award because of her dedication and service to the youth
that participate in activities at the Primetime Community Center,”
said Arthur Wilson, City Life director for Youth for Christ’s
Primetime Community Center in Fort Wayne. Details >>
Webb to give lecture at History Center
Huntington
University’s Dr. Jeffrey Webb, professor of
history, will deliver an
invited lecture in conjunction with the release of the new PBS
series, “We Shall Remain.” Webb’s lecture will be at 3 p.m. on April
26 at the History Center in Fort Wayne. This program, included as
part of the American Experience series, documents the Native
American story in North America, and argues that Native American
history should be seen as an essential part of American history.

'Behind the Scenes on
Wall Street'
Michael L. Smith, a vice president at Goldman Sachs,
will give a presentation titled “Behind the Scenes on
Wall Street” at 4 p.m. on May 1 in Hiner Hall of the
Science Hall at Huntington University. The presentation
is part of a seminar series titled “Christians Making a
Difference in the Sciences” and is free and open to the
public. Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics
from Houghton College and a master’s degree in applied
mathematics from the University of Kentucky. He is the
son of Dr. Jerry Smith, professor of
physics and
chemistry.
