Forester
Night honors students, faculty
The 38th
Annual Forester Night was held May 5 in the Zurcher Auditorium of
the Huntington University Merillat Centre for the Arts. Foresters of
the Year, the Alpha Chi Award and the Outstanding Senior Awards from
various academic departments were given to several Huntington
University graduating seniors. Foresters of the Year are voted on by
the Huntington University student body.
Kathryn Crandall,
an exercise science major from Anderson, Ind., was named Female
Forester of the Year. Adam Widener, a broadcasting major from New
Whiteland, Ind., was named Male Forester of the Year.

Digital media arts
program to host showcase
Huntington
University’s digital media arts
program will host the Spring Showcase at 7 p.m. on May 13 in
the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for the Arts. There is
no admission charge, and the event is open to the public. Popcorn
and pop will be available. This event is a screening of student
productions. All digital media arts students in animation and live
action had the option to submit work to be featured. Students’ work
has been divided up into categories including animation, live action
and senior projects. Once those projects have been shown, awards
will be announced and then followed by a special raw and unplugged
segment.

Groth, Shafer receive
Joe Mertz Center awards
Huntington University students Laura Groth and Dustin Shafer
recently received the Servant Leadership Award in recognition of
their leadership and service to the Huntington community.
Students are
nominated by faculty, staff and peers and must be juniors with a 2.5
grade point average or above to be eligible. Two $1,000 awards are
granted, and recipients are awarded with $750 and asked to designate
$250 to the charity of their choice.

HU recognizes outstanding future
educators
The
Huntington University Education Department recently recognized the
following students as recipients of the Outstanding Future Educator
Award: Joshua Cauhorn, a senior English education major from Avilla,
Ind.; Cassie Miller, a senior elementary education major from
Huntington, Ind.; and Leah Winger, a senior elementary education
major from South Whitley, Ind. The award is based on the students’
academic achievements, disposition and performance in clinical
experiences, especially student teaching. The Outstanding Future
Educator Award is given by Huntington University in conjunction with
the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. A
statewide honorary banquet was held by the IACTE on April 17 for the
recipients of the award.

HU response to H1N1 Flu
As more
developments unfold regarding the threat of
swine-related influenza, I want to assure you that we
are closely monitoring updates and recommendations from
various local, state and federal health organizations.
HU has followed all recommendations the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided for colleges
and universities. We will be tracking any students with
flu-like symptoms. We have reviewed our pandemic
response policies, and we have established protocol for
testing individuals with flu-like symptoms. Details >>
