Huntington to host diversity
conference
Huntington University will host the
Conference on Christianity, Culture and Diversity in America on
Nov. 14-16 with pre-conference events on Nov. 13. The conference is
sponsored by the university, the
John M. Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation and Development, Inc.,
and
Salter McNeil and Associates, LLC.
The
Council for Christian Colleges and Universities in Washington,
D.C., is also supporting the event. The early bird registration
deadline is Sept. 30.

Dowden to present 'Faith,
Family, Medicine'
Dr.
Beau Dowden, a 1998 Huntington University alumnus, will give a
presentation titled “Faith, Family and Medicine: Thoughts from a
Family Physician” at 4 p.m. on Oct. 3 in Hiner Hall of the Science
Hall at Huntington University. The seminar is part of a series
titled “Christians Making a Difference in the Sciences” and is free
and open to the public. Dowden, son of Huntington University
President G. Blair Dowden, is a family medicine physician in Fort
Gratiot, Mich., and serves on staff at the Port Huron Hospital and
Mercy Hospital in Port Huron.

Nalliah, Brauchla receive Peer Awards
Recipients
of the Huntington University Peer Award for the month of September
are Paul Nalliah and Denise Brauchla. Sharon Woods, director of
financial aid, passed the Peer Award to Paul Nalliah. Nalliah is
administrative systems administrator and has been with the
university for 11 years. Dr. Timothy Smith, assistant professor of
history, passed the Peer Award to Denise Brauchla.

Waldfogel awarded Wilson Scholarship
The Edward M. and
Mary McCrea Wilson Foundation, administered by National City Bank in
Fort Wayne, has awarded the Independent Colleges of Indiana $15,000
for five scholarships of $3,000 each. Dedicated to helping students
who need financial assistance to remain in college or to control
their college debt, these scholarships are designated for students
at five Fort Wayne-area independent campuses: Huntington University,
Indiana Tech, Indiana Wesleyan University, Taylor University Fort
Wayne and University of Saint Francis. Elizabeth Hope Waldfogel, a
senior
educational ministries major at Huntington University, was one
of the recipients. Waldfogel is from Fort Wayne, Ind.

EXCEL hires additional staff members
The
EXCEL Adult Degree Programs
of Huntington University recently hired two new staff members.
Carrie Hoffman was hired as an admissions consultant for the
Columbia City location. Denise Howe is serving as the new curriculum
coordinator. She assists with maintaining the current curriculum and
developing new curriculum for EXCEL students. EXCEL offers evening
classes tailored to the schedule of most working adults. Classes are
held one night per week, one subject at a time. Classes last five to
eight weeks and lead to an associate degree in organizational
management or bachelor’s degrees in accounting, business
administration, human resource management or not-for-profit
leadership.

What does it mean
to be Christ-centered?
Smith to
write article for BBC
Dr. Timothy Smith, assistant professor of history, has
been commissioned by the BBC Radio World Service to
write an article about the British involvement in the
First Vietnam War 1945-54. The article will be
translated by the BBC into Vietnamese for publication
later in the academic year.
Davenport appointed to council
Jody Davenport,
instructor in physical education, has been appointed a two-year term
on the Indiana Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation
and Dance Council for Higher Education and
the Research Council. Council members are responsible for assisting
council leaders and designing programming for IAHPERD members.
