Fishers High School wins math
competition
On
Oct. 8, Huntington University held its annual High School Math
Competition. The competition was held in Hiner Hall of the Science
Hall on the Huntington University campus. There were 12 teams made
up of a total of 85 ninth through 12th grade participants. The
students competed in three separate rounds: a multiple-choice test,
an individual quick-answer round, and a team round. Scores were
tallied for each team and each individual. Fishers High School came
in first place with 605 total points. St, Joseph’s High School came
in second with 595 points, and Hamilton South Eastern High School
came in third with 570.

Community invited to join
'Messiah' choir
The
Huntington University Concert Choir invites the community to join
the choir as the group combines with the Huntington University
Orchestra and begins to rehearse for the 54th annual performance of
Handel’s “Messiah.”
The performance
will be at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Huntington. The public is invited to join the choir in
their practices. Rehearsals will be held at the university’s
Merillat Center for the Arts from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 and 27,
Nov. 3 and 24, and Dec. 1 with a dress rehearsal on Dec. 6 from 1:30
to 4:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Huntington senior
to
perform vocal recital
Huntington University senior Abigail Allwein, a
theatre major and
music minor from Fort Wayne,
Ind., will perform her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24
in the Longaker Recital Hall of the Merillat Centre for the
Arts. Allwein will be featured on the HU stage as “Marian Paroo” in
“The Music Man” in November. She has been seen as “Jane” in “As It
Is In Heaven,” “Meg March” in “Little Women: The Musical,” “Kathryn”
in “Radium Girls,” “Crystal” in “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Lamar” in
“Godspell,” “Della” in “The Gift of the Magi,” and in the ensembles
for “Shakesperience” and “The House of Bernarda Alba.”

'Mr. Scrooge' auditions postponed to Oct.
26
The
auditions for Huntington University’s production of “Mr. Scrooge”
have been postponed to Oct. 26. Acting and singing auditions will
run from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., and dancing auditions will take place
from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. All auditions, which are open to the
community, will be held in room 160 of the Merillat Centre for the
Arts on the university’s campus. Those auditioning should bring a
30- to 60-second monologue, 16 to 32 bars of a song and clothing
suitable for dancing. An accompanist will be provided. “Mr. Scrooge”
is a “Town Hall Production,” a project of Huntington University’s
Theatre Ensemble course.

HU hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Week
Huntington University
is commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a week-long
observance from Oct. 15-22. Information tables are set up in the
Habecker Dining Commons and the Huntington Union Building. Student,
faculty and staff volunteers are distributing information and pink
ribbons. In addition, luminaries in honor of or in memory of
friends, family and acquaintances who have battled any type of
cancer – not just breast cancer – are being sold for $1 each.
Proceeds will benefit the Young Survival Coalition, an organization
offering support to young women coping with breast cancer.

University instructor to present guitar
recital
Huntington
University instructor Phil Schurger will present a guitar recital at
7:30 p.m. on Oct. 16 at in the Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat
Centre for the Arts.
Schurger completed a Bachelor of Arts program at Northern
Illinois University in 2003. He acquired a Master of Music in jazz
guitar, composition and electronic music from Northern Illinois
University during 2004. Schurger has been an instructor of guitar at
Huntington University since 2005.

the HU Maintenance Building on the
corner of Fruit and Himes streets.

your garages, attics, closets, basements
and wherever for donations.
Mark the clean, usable items clearly
with reasonable prices and
bring to the Maintenance Building
between 3 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 16 or from 7 a.m. until
noon on Oct. 17. Furniture, household items, small
appliances, records, games, books, good clothing,
gardening and yard supplies; even fresh plants or
produce are useful to students, personnel and
community. (Note: sweaters, blouses, pants, jeans,
shirts, shoes and books do not need to be marked.)
Unsold items are donated to Shepherd's Closet, Habitat,
