University to present Newsboys
STAR
88.3 and Huntington University have partnered to present an
evening of music and message with the
Newsboys at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Fort Wayne’s
Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. The Newsboys, with Michael
Tait, have teamed up with
Global Tribe to travel the U.S. to bring an event called
“Reach” to various cities. “Reach” partners with local radio
stations, community ministries and neighborhood churches to bring
the Gospel message to towns across America and beyond. This ministry
is wrapped up in a Newsboys concert that includes a Gospel
presentation followed by a call for new believers to connect with a
local church.

Denver & the Mile
High Orchestra to perform
Denver & the Mile High Orchestra will bring their signature big band style to Huntington
University on Oct. 2. The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. in the
Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for
the Arts. The event is part of the university’s 2009
Homecoming celebration, "We Are
HU!" To purchase tickets, call the Merillat Centre for the Arts Box
Office at (260) 359-4261. Ticket prices are $18 for reserved
seating, $16 for seniors and students, $13.50 for Huntington
University faculty and staff, and $5 for Huntington University
students. Formed by a group of friends at Nashville’s Belmont
University in 1999, DMHO is comprised of three trumpet players,
three saxophone players, two trombone players and a rhythm section.

HTV News earns gold
at College State Awards
HTV, a weekly news
program written, directed, produced and edited by Huntington
University students, earned recognition at the Indiana Association
of School Broadcasters’ 2009 College State Awards. HTV took the gold
in the TV Newscast College Category for a show produced as a team in
May 2009. Adam Widener, of Whiteland, Ind., was the producer, and
Brittany Christian, of Carmel, Ind., was the director. Both were
senior broadcasting majors at the time of the broadcast and
graduated in May 2009.

Alumna to give
lecture about nonlinear optics
Victoria Hall, a
2005 Huntington University alumna with a Bachelor of Science degree
in chemistry and a minor in
physics, will give a presentation
titled “Nonlinear Optics as a Method for Probing Order in Biological
Systems.” The event will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, in
Hiner Hall of the Science Hall as part of the Gerald D. Smith
Lecture Series in the Natural and Mathematical Sciences. As part of
her presentation, she also will discuss life as a graduate student
in the sciences. Hall is a Ph.D. candidate in the Chemistry
Department at Purdue University and currently works in the research
group of Dr. Garth Simpson at Purdue. The presentation is free and
open to the public.

accepted into Chicago film fest
Three
digital media arts majors
from Huntington University have had their work accepted into the
Chicago International Children’s
Film Festival to be held Oct. 22-Nov. 1. Seniors Jimi
Bonogofsky and Colleen (King) Thornbrugh’s short animated film, “I
Think I Might Be” was chosen along with junior Johnathan Roatch’s
piece, “Aqua Melodies.” The Chicago International Children’s Film
Festival is the largest festival of films for children in North
America and features more than 200 films from 40 countries and
screens a wide range of projects from live-action and animated
features, to shorts, T.V. series, documentaries, and child-produced
works. One of the most unique festivals in the country, showcasing
the best in culturally diverse, non-violent, value-affirming new
cinema for children, the CICFF is the only children’s film festival
to be an Academy Award® Qualifying Festival.

PE program offered to
homeschoolers
Huntington
University’s Department of Physical Education
is offering a physical education program for elementary-aged
homeschooled children. The department will have nine sessions this
fall. Class time is from 2:15 to 3:03 p.m. in the field house of the
university’s Merillat Complex for Physical Education and Recreation.
The dates for the sessions are Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; Nov. 5, 12
and 19; and Dec. 3.
This service is
available to all area homeschooled children in elementary grades,
including students from Huntington and surrounding counties.
Families who have not previously been involved in the program are
asked to come a few minutes early on Oct. 1 to complete the
registration forms. This fall’s curriculum will be an integration of
social studies and physical education. For more information, contact

Senior leaders on Midday
Matters
On
Sept. 15, WBOI 89.1 featured Senior Leadership Team
members Jeff Berggren, Ron Coffey and Ann McPherren on
the station’s weekly Midday Matters program with a theme
of “Focus on Finance.” The group discussed issues and
opportunities facing Huntington University. Topics
included student demographics, academic programs, market
distinctives and athletic programming.
Thompson
presents paper
The Rev. Michael
Thompson, adjunct instructor, presented the paper, “Messianic
Enthronement and the Fire of God: Apocalyptic Imagery in Ascension
and Pentecost,” at the London School of Theology New Testament
Conference in September.
O'Donnell to discuss economy
On Oct. 5, Prof.
Jim O'Donnell, associate professor of
business and executive-in-residence, will share his thoughts
about the struggling U.S. economy with alumni at Casa Ristorante in
Fort Wayne. A question-and-answer session will follow. For more
