Share the
Love Food Drive to tour Walmarts

STAR
88.3, the Associated Churches of Allen County and Huntington
University are sponsoring the Share the Love Food Drive “Mini-Tour”
on Oct. 5-10. Students from Huntington University’s Joe Mertz Center
for Volunteer Service and Student Admissions Staff will assist with
the mini-tour.
Food items will be
given to the Associated Churches of Allen County with the exception
of donations in Warsaw and Huntington where donations will be sent
to food banks in those communities.

LifeSpring Counseling
Center opens
The
Huntington University Graduate School has opened LifeSpring
Counseling Center, a free counseling clinic on the university’s
campus. The clinic is staffed by students in the graduate school’s
Master of Arts in counseling program and supervised by the program’s
director, Dr. Jerry E. Davis. LifeSpring Counseling Center accepts
donations, but the counseling sessions are free. The hours are 9
a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on
Friday. The counseling center is open to the public and serves
individuals, couples, families and children.

Theology professor to
discuss Obama, King
Huntington
University’s Forester Lecture Series will feature Dr. J. Kameron
Carter at 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 in the Zurcher Auditorium of the
Merillat Centre for the Arts. This lecture is part of the Adams
Tribute Lecture Series. Carter, associate professor of theology at
Duke Divinity School, will discuss “Obama and the Legacy of Martin
Luther King Jr.” His presentation will address the King legacy in
American religion and politics and will offer a meditation on the
future of religion in the United States.

University crowns
2009 Homecoming court
The
Huntington University student body crowned its Homecoming king and
queen Friday during an evening ceremony in Habecker Dining Commons.
Senior Amos Rawley, a Bible and religion major from Greencastle,
Pa., was named king while senior Katie Aeschliman, a public
relations major from Stryker, Ohio, was crowned queen.
Senior attendants
of the Homecoming court included Melissa Keighin, a social work
major from Carlock, Ill.; Danielle Miller, a communication studies
major from Findlay, Ohio; Jessica Rhode, a nursing major from Japan;
Matthew Cable, a youth ministries and missions major from
Chambersburg, Pa.; Joel Reichenbach, a youth ministries major from
Bluffton, Ohio; and Peter Owens, a Bible and religion major from
Indianapolis, Ind.

HU inducts 13 members
into Lambda Pi Eta
Huntington
University inducted 13 new members into its Lambda Pi Eta chapter at
a ceremony held Sept. 29 in Habecker Dining Commons. Lambda Pi Eta
is the official communication studies
honor society of the National Communication Association.
Members of the organization complete one significant service project
in the community each semester. For the fall semester of 2009, they
will assist with the Huntington County United Way’s fundraising
campaign at the university.

O'Donnell gives
presentation
Prof.
Jim O’Donnell, associate professor of
business and
executive-in-residence, gave a strategic planning
presentation Sept. 25 to the joint boards of Markle and
Grabill Banks. In addition, O'Donnell will have a radio
interview on Oct. 5 with Mark Mellinger, host of "1090
Today" on Christian radio station WFCV.
Mellinger also serves as an anchor on WANE TV.
Martin
presents paper
Dr. Todd Martin,
professor of English, recently
presented his paper, “’To have her Home and Leave it too’: Katherine
Mansfield and her Middle Class Values,” at a Katherine Mansfield
Symposium. The symposium took place in the south of France where
Mansfield lived for a time as an expatriate from New Zealand. In
attendance were the New Zealand ambassador to France and numerous
notable Mansfield scholars.
