Huntington to
present 'Beauty and the Beast'
The
Huntington University Department of
Theatre Arts will bring the Disney classic “Beauty and the
Beast” to the Zurcher Auditorium stage. “Audiences will be delighted
and spellbound by the story of Belle and her less-than-charming
captor,” said Jay Duffer, director and assistant professor of
theatre arts. “This magical tale with its beautiful music, elegant
dancing and memorable characters makes this production a must-see.”
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will run at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12,
13, 14, and 19, 20, and 21, with two matinee performances at 2 p.m.
on Nov. 14 and 21. The performances will take place at Huntington
University’s Merillat Centre for the Arts
in the Zurcher Auditorium.

Scholar to discuss
diversity, inclusion in Acts
Huntington
University’s Forester Lecture Series
will feature Dr. Ben Witherington III at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4 in the
Zurcher Auditorium of the Merillat Centre for
the Arts. Witherington serves as Amos Professor of New
Testament for Doctoral Studies at Asbury Theological Seminary and on
the doctoral faculty at St. Andrews University in Scotland. His
presentation, “Diversity and Inclusion in ‘Acts of the Apostles,’”
will focus on the issue of diversity among the first Christians as
recorded in the New Testament. A graduate of the University of North
Carolina, Chapel Hill, Witherington went on to receive the Master of
Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a Ph.D.
from the University of Durham in England. He is an elected member of
the Society for New Testament Studies.

Huntington to host
Visiting Executive Seminar
Huntington
University will host a Visiting Executive
Seminar on today at 8:45 a.m. in the Habecker Dining
Commons. The seminar brings together business leaders and Huntington
University business students to discuss important issues in today’s
business world. Led by Jim O’Donnell, associate professor of
business and
executive-in-residence, and Dr. G. Blair Dowden,
president of the university,
this seminar will focus on the economic and financial crisis.
Attendees will examine two articles to frame a discussion about the
current economy and its effect on businesses and families. Both
pieces expand on principles in Jim Collins’ new book, “How the
Mighty Fall.” The first is titled “‘How the Mighty Fall’: A Primer
on the Warning Signs,” and the second is “Motorola and Fannie Mae:
What Went Wrong.”

Forester coaches to
introduce student-athletes
The
Huntington University Foundation
will continue its breakfast series on Nov. 11 with a presentation by
the university’s athletic director, Lori Culler, as well as Forester
coaches and student-athletes. The
Athletic Department staff will discuss their respective
programs and introduce the student-athletes. The Huntington
University Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men
and women. In the past 11 years, Huntington has produced 64 NAIA
All-America honors and 158 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. The
breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. in Habecker Dining
Commons. The cost is $6 per person. Breakfasts are open to the
public, and first-time guests are not charged. The program will
conclude by 9 a.m.

HU hosts Youth
Entrepreneur Symposium
On Oct. 20,
Huntington University hosted the third annual
Venture Works Youth Entrepreneur Symposium. One hundred
twenty Huntington North High School students participated in the
day-long event. Students were divided into 25 groups and experienced
first hand how to invent a new video gaming system. Ideas from the
sessions included motion integrated video game, gaming glasses, a
game system which would play any game from any system, an arcade
interactive gaming system, various levels of playability and the use
of batteries that charged themselves when used.

Garage sale canceled
The annual
October garage sale sponsored by the Huntington
University Women’s Auxiliary will not be scheduled this
year because of the extensive renovation of the HU
Maintenance Building. Thanks to all the faithful
contributors, sorters and shoppers for waiting until
next year.

attend conference
Professors Susie Burson and Terrell
Peace of the Education Department
attended the Association of Teacher Educators, Indiana (ATE-I)
Annual Conference in Brown County, Ind., on Oct. 10-11. Peace,
president-elect of the national ATE, gave comments at the opening
banquet of the conference and Burson presented during one of the
concurrent sessions. She shared preliminary findings of her
dissertation research titled, “Classroom Quality and Kindergarten
Achievement.” She has been invited to return to next year’s
conference to share additional findings as she concludes research
analysis.
Heller
presents paper
Dr. Jack Heller, assistant professor of
English, presented a paper
titled, “Deconstructing Hypocrisy with Shakespeare Behind Bars,” on
Oct. 3 at the Shakespeare Connects Conference, hosted by Grand
Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
