tobyMac to
perform at Huntington University
Huntington
University and Trinity Communications will present multi-Grammy and
Dove award-winning artist tobyMac in concert at the university’s
Fieldhouse on Dec. 3. The Fieldhouse is located in the Merillat
Complex for Physical Education & Recreation. tobyMac will appear as
part of his Winter Wonder Slam tour. The Huntington University
concert also will include Stephanie Smith,
B.Reith and
Attaboy. As in past years, Winter Wonder Slam will benefit
the work of the U.S. Marine Corps in its annual Toys for Tots
campaign. Concert goers are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift to
the event.

Huntington to
present 'Beauty and the Beast'
The
Huntington University Department of
Theatre Arts will bring the Disney classic “Beauty and the
Beast” to the Zurcher Auditorium stage. “Audiences will be delighted
and spellbound by the story of Belle and her less-than-charming
captor,” said Jay Duffer, director and assistant professor of
theatre arts. “This magical tale with its beautiful music, elegant
dancing and memorable characters makes this production a must-see.”
Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will run at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 12,
13, 14, and 19, 20, and 21, with two matinee performances at 2 p.m.
on Nov. 14 and 21. The performances will take place at Huntington
University’s Merillat Centre for the Arts
in the Zurcher Auditorium.

English Department
hosts state conference
The
Huntington University English Department hosted the annual Indiana
College English Association conference on October 23, 2009. English
faculty members and graduate students from throughout the state
attended the one-day event.
Matt Mullins,
assistant professor of creative writing at Ball State University,
presented the keynote address, speaking on “What the Image Says:
Visualizing Meaning across Genres.” Other faculty members and
graduate students presented the results of their own research in
different sessions throughout the day.

Forester coaches to
introduce student-athletes
The
Huntington University Foundation
will continue its breakfast series on Nov. 11 with a presentation by
the university’s athletic director, Lori Culler, as well as Forester
coaches and student-athletes. The
Athletic Department staff will discuss their respective
programs and introduce the student-athletes. The
breakfast line will open at 7:45 a.m. in Habecker Dining
Commons. The cost is $6 per person. Breakfasts are open to the
public, and first-time guests are not charged. The program will
conclude by 9 a.m.

Placencia honored for
'Realizing the Dream'
Huntington University student Logan E. Placencia of Auburn and
her former basketball coach, Mitchell Kruse of Lakewood Park
Christian School, will be among those honored by the Independent
Colleges of Indiana at the annual "Realizing the Dream" banquet in
Indianapolis on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009. Placencia is a sophomore at
Huntington University studying elementary education.

Bergler presents paper
Dr.
Tom Bergler, associate professor of ministry & missions,
presented a paper titled “Taming the Juvenilization of
American Christianity” at the Association of Youth
Ministry Educators conference on Oct. 17.
Honor
society attends convocation
Representatives from the Omega Psi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, the
international honor society in
education, attended the biennial convocation held in
Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 29-31. Dr. Terrell Peace, founder of the
Huntington University chapter, was honored for 10 years of service
as chapter counselor. Professor Susie Burson and Professor Kathy
Turner, associate counselors, also attended along with six student
members: Jennifer Coplen, chapter president; Callie Wyatt, vice
president; Laura Groth, Emily Canary, Bethany Ellet and Allison
Baker. The participants attended a number of workshops and seminars,
including sessions featuring the National State Teacher of the Year,
Anthony Mullen, and Teacher Astronaut, Barbara Morgan.
Cheerleading squad to host clinic
The Huntington
University cheerleading squad will host a
cheer clinic on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to
11:30 a.m. If you have questions about the clinic, contact head
coach, Candace Cooper, at 260.224.0179.
