The Twelfth Biennial meeting of the Conference of Quaker

Historians and Archivists was held at the Stony Run Meeting in

Baltimore, Maryland, June 19-21, 1998. John W. Oliver (Malone College)

coordinated the program.

On April 24-25, 1998, an inaugural conference on the social gospel

was held at Colgate Rochester Divinity School. Co-sponsored by the

Divinity School and Edwin Mellen Press, it featured papers and panel

presentations designed to promote a scholarly understanding of the social

gospel tradition. Selected papers from this conference will be published in

a special volume in the Edwin Mellen Press Series "Texts and Studies in

A conference on "Christianity and Culture: The Heritage of

Abraham Kuyper on Different Continents" took place at the Free

University of Amsterdam on June 9-11, 1998. It was sponsored by the

Departments of Theology and Philosophy at the Free University and the

Historical Documentation Centre for Dutch Protestantism. The plenary

speakers were: Jan de Bruin (Historical Documentation Center), Aad van

Egmond (Free University), Nicholas Wolterstorff (Yale University), Song

Bong Ho (Seoul National University), Johannes Adonis (University of the

Western Cape), Peter Heslam (U.K.), and James Bratt (Calvin College).
