Religious Freedom, Human Dignity, and the Public Good

June 6-8, 2002



Trinity Western University and the Evangelical Fellowshipof Canada

will be sponsoring an international conference on religious freedom atTrinity

Western University, Langley, British Columbia,Canada, June 6-8, 2002.

Challenges to religious freedom seemto be part of the human condition. In

varying degrees, followers of Jesus have experienced opposition, including

persecution, for twomillennia. Followers of other faiths have experienced

similar restrictions. In our dayrestrictions continue, and at times intensify,

even in advanced democracies.

This conference, occasioned in part by the historic 2001 SupremeCourt

of Canada decision on religious freedom,will focus on the following themes:

human dignity and religious freedom, global trends in religious freedom

(concentrating onrestrictions rather than outright persecution), religious

freedom in Canada (legal, political,social, and educational), public benefits of

religious freedom,citizenship and freedom, and pluralism and freedom.

Confirmed speakers include Dr. David Novakand Dr. Peter Marshall. There

will be a published volume of selected conference papers.

Although the evening sessions will be open to thepublic and will have

a more popular appeal, the conferenceis organized primarily as an academic
