About Christ@Center@Huntington
President Blair Dowden has invited the entire Huntington University community to reflect on what it means to be Christ-centered.
“Our main thing at Huntington University is our Christ-centeredness,” said Dowden. “That is who we say we are; that is our promise to students. This year we want to examine how we are doing in fulfilling that promise and to work to strengthen our Christ-centered core.”
Three goals were set by the Task Force planning this year-long initiatve:
- Promote a campus-wide dialog on what it means to be a Christ-centered university and on how Christ-centeredness should be manifested among us.
- Encourage each member of the campus community to reflect on what it means to be Christ-centered in his or her role and to take steps to change as necessary.
- Evaluate how well we are fulfilling our promise of being a Christ-centered university and determine steps we can take together to improve.
Throughout the year, several activities have helped promote conversation and reflection, including:
- Friday Bible studies exploring the person and work of Jesus Christ.
- Presidential Symposium on Christ-centered Higher Education (March 5, 2008)
- Essays from HU students, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends.
- Chapel programs focusing on Christ-centeredness.
- Book studies sponsored by various faculty and student groups.
- Discussions in every department, committee, team and organization.
- Fifth-Wednesday faculty development sessions.
- Personal reflection.
We invite you to join us for this year-long exploration.
