G. Blair DowdenPresident Blair Dowden has invited the entire Huntington University community to reflect on what it means to be Christ-centered.

“Our main thing at Huntington University is our Christ-centeredness,” said Dowden. “That is who we say we are; that is our promise to students. This year we want to examine how we are doing in fulfilling that promise and to work to strengthen our Christ-centered core.”

Three goals were set by the Task Force planning this year-long initiatve:

  1. Promote a campus-wide dialog on what it means to be a Christ-centered university and on how Christ-centeredness should be manifested among us.
  2. Encourage each member of the campus community to reflect on what it means to be Christ-centered in his or her role and to take steps to change as necessary.
  3. Evaluate how well we are fulfilling our promise of being a Christ-centered university and determine steps we can take together to improve.

Throughout the year, several activities have helped promote conversation and reflection, including:

  • Friday Bible studies exploring the person and work of Jesus Christ.
  • Presidential Symposium on Christ-centered Higher Education (March 5, 2008)
  • Essays from HU students, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends.
  • Chapel programs focusing on Christ-centeredness.
  • Book studies sponsored by various faculty and student groups.
  • Discussions in every department, committee, team and organization.
  • Fifth-Wednesday faculty development sessions.
  • Personal reflection.

We invite you to join us for this year-long exploration.
