Art Education
Huntington University will help you become an art teacher of exceptional skill, unique creative thought, and deep Christian faith.
Art education is one of several interrelated programs offered by Huntington University. You will study alongside visual artists, graphic designers, and digital animators as you develop a richer understanding of the role of art in society and prepare for a career as an art teacher.
You will acquire broad experience in the creative use of methods and materials, and attain confidence in your ability to integrate their faith, knowledge and creativity.
As an art student at Huntington, you’ll take studio courses in drawing, painting, and design. You’ll give and receive constructive criticism, and participate in dynamic discussions. Your experience will be enriched by visiting artists, on-campus gallery exhibits, and field trips to the cultural resources of Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Toledo. European art tours are frequently offered, as well.
You’ll take courses in art history and criticism to gain skill in discerning art styles and periods, acquire an understanding of the historical role of art as a means of expressing ideas in religion and culture, and grow in appreciation for the heritage of the visual arts in Christian worship. You will also complete advanced studios in preparation for a senior exhibit and portfolio.
Our Bachelor of Science degree in art education is specifically designed for students who wish to obtain a teaching license. Indiana licensing endorsements may be selected for either secondary (5-12) or all-grade (K-12) levels. Reciprocity agreements between Indiana and other states help our graduates find employment across the country. (Ask our faculty about your particular career plans.)
