No one can “search too far or be too well-studied in the book of God’s word or in the book of God’s works,” said Francis Bacon, who like other early scientists saw no conflict between pursuing both a life of faith and a career in science. Many of the founders of the scientific revolution were devoted Christians. Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, and Faraday were among the many believing scientists that were not interested merely in the “how” of nature, but also sought to understand the “why.” In this tradition, Huntington University offers chemistry degrees for students who plan careers in research, medicine, industry and education. Students who enjoy computers, mathematics, and laboratory work make good candidates for a chemistry major. At Huntington University, you’ll have opportunities which are not available at larger universities. Importantly, your classes here will not be taught by “graduate assistants,” but rather by exceptionally credentialed full-time professors. Our faculty are outstanding chemists and engaging instructors. They will challenge you to think critically, work diligently, and integrate faith with your studies. As a chemistry education major at Huntington University, you will have ready access to high-tech equipment and well-stocked labs. You will use research-grade instruments and computers while gaining comprehensive experience in a series a courses, field experiences and, of course, student teaching during your senior year. But student teaching will not be your first experience in the classroom. At Huntington, you will gain specifically designed skills for chemistry education majors that will give you hands-on, practical experiences every semester. You will complete a three-week, full-day practicum in a multicultural school in Fort Wayne as well as observation and participation hours in the actual classroom before you ever begin student teaching. At Huntington, you will gain wide exposure to different grade levels and styles of teaching and learning. Huntington students have a very high rate of passage on state education competency tests. Our state-accredited program is specifically designed for students who wish to obtain an Indiana teaching license. Reciprocity agreements with other states help our graduates find employment all across the country. |
