Dr. Holtrop teaches secondary education and technology courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs. His administrative duties include overseeing the graduate and adult studies programs on campus, supervision of the campus-wide academic assessment system, chairing of the Diversity Task Force, and coordination of accreditation reviews. He graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a degree in secondary English education. For six years, he taught English and journalism in Miami, Florida, and Orange City, Iowa. His master's degree from the University of Iowa was in English education and journalism education, and he earned his doctorate in English education with an emphasis on teaching writing. Dr. Holtrop serves on the Teacher Education Committee of the Indiana Department of Education and has served as state chair for accreditation teams at colleges around the state. He co-edited a book entitled Nurturing and Reflective Teachers: A Christian Approach for the 21st Century and has also published and presented on home schooling, technology, assessment, and accreditation topics. He and his wife, Sharon, a doctoral candidate in sociology at Purdue University, attend First Presbyterian Church in Huntington and have three young adult children all attending Huntington University. The whole family volunteers four times a year at the Three Rivers Natural Grocery in Fort Wayne, where they enjoy the organic food.
