The department is
accredited by the State of Indiana and accredited by the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The education program is among the largest academic departments at Huntington
University.
-
All the education professors have K-12 teaching experience
and graduate school study. Five department faculty members have
earned doctorates in their area of
specialization. Most have over 15 years
experience teaching college and supervising student teachers.
-
Students get into classrooms every semester of their program, ensuring wide exposure to
different grade levels and teaching and learning styles.
-
The program has a junior block in which we schedule elementary methods courses,
finishing exams a month early and providing an
every-day, all-morning field experience for four weeks
each semester.
-
The junior block creates a camaraderie and sense of belonging and
togetherness with each cohort of teacher candidates.
-
The department is equipped with two model classrooms.
-
Many education majors gain practical experiences while working at Kids Kampus, a
child-care facility located near the campus.
-
Many education majors tutor other college students
in the
Learning Center, volunteer with the
Joe Mertz Center, or
participate in Spring Break mission trips.
-
We have a required multicultural practicum during the colleges January term.
All education majors spend full days in urban classrooms.
