Sigma Tau Delta is back
The English Department revived its chapter of Sigma Tau Delta—the English Honor Society—with an induction ceremony on Dec. 2. Six students were inducted into membership: Matt Ditzler, Tai Mauney, Ben Merchant, Jen Stultz, Joe Urschel, and Lindsey Van Gelder.  Also, the chapter installed its new officers, Tai Mauney, president; Jen Stults, vice president; and Ben Merchant, secretary.  Huntington College's chapter of Sigma Tau Delta was originally established in 1993 but has been inactive for several years.  Dr. Todd Martin, the chapter sponsor, feels that the students inducted and the new officers elected are exactly what is needed to lay a firm foundation for the organization's lasting presence on the campus.  Read the HC news release.

Students present research at Conference on Christianity and Literature
Dr. Todd Martin accompanied several students to the Mideast Conference on Christianity and Literature held in Dayton, Ohio.  Seniors Tai Mauney and Craig French presented essays in a session on Christianity and Science Fiction, essays which stemmed from ideas gleaned in Dr. Martin's J-Term, Christianity and the Science Fiction World View.  Other students--Kristi Cates, Carole Nickle, and Claire Pontius--also attended the meeting.  Read the HC news Release.

Dr. Del Doughty receives Indiana Grant
Dr. Del Doughty recently received a grant which is designed to encourage arts in Indiana, particularly art which in some way focuses on the state, itself.  Dr. Doughty is writing a series of Haiku and prose poems which will eventually be adapted to hypertext format.  The goal is to create interactive poetry.  

Dr. Todd Martin's article on Clyde Edgerton to be published
Dr. Todd Martin was recently notified that his article, "Where Trouble Sleeps: Clyde Edgerton's Criticism of Moralistic Christianity," has been accepted for publication in Renascence: Essays on Values in Literature.  The article should appear in the winter 2002 edition of the journal.

Dr. Del Doughty attends NEH seminar
Dr. Del Doughty spent much of the summer with other scholars  in Los Angeles, California, where he was participating in an NEH seminar.  The focus of the seminar was The Poetics of Hypertext Narrative.

Dr. Linda Urschel wins Faculty Member of the Year Award
Dr. Linda Urschel was announced as "Professor of the Year" during the annual Forester Night held this year on May 8.  As a professor, she is well received by her students.  Molly Deuberry, a graduating senior, said of Dr. Urschel, "She is a fabulous role model for all women.  As a Christian, a professional, and a friend, she is truly deserving of this award."  Read more in the HC news release.   

Dr. Todd Martin's article on E. E. Cummings published
Dr. Todd Martin's article, "'The Mysteries of Noyon': Emblem and Meaning in The Enormous Room," was recently published in Spring: The Journal of the E. E. Cummings Society. 

Dr. Linda Urschel presented a paper on Sharon Crumb
Dr. Linda Urschel presented her essay, "Sharon Crumb's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter: A Spiritual Odyssey" at the second annual Appalachian Women's Conference held in Zanesville, Ohio.
