Professor Del Doughty is a member of the Haiku Society of America. He published several poems this year, including one, “Flow,” that earned “Best Poem of the Winter Issue” in Modern Haiku, the leading journal in the field. During his sabbatical in the spring of 2003 he wrote screenplays for two feature-length films (Cripe’s Ache and The Mother of Invention), completed work on a poetry collection (Flow), and read deeply in computer science. He served as a deacon and an adult Sunday School teacher at Central Christian Church. Professional Activities (2001-2002) Professor Doughty is a member of the Haiku Society of America. He presented a paper, "The Shift from Multi-Linearity to Multi-Channel Sensory Input in Recent Electronic Narrative," at the University of Louisville. He wrote several poems including "receding surf," "the wide ocean," "light from the snow," "in church I see the light," "dead dandelion," and "Kroger." He completed Quintessence of Dust, a screenplay, and has a poetry collection in progress. He received a writer's grant and served as a literature panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission. Professional Activities (2000-2001) Professor Doughty is a member of the Haiku Society of America. He delivered the keynote address, "Metonymy and Synecdoche in Haiku: Towards a Poetics of the Fragment," at the World Haiku Festival in Oxford, England. He organized a technology conference--Pen, Printing Press, Hypertext: The History and the Future of Learning Technology--held on the Huntington College campus. He presented a paper, "Linking by Scent: Hypertext and the Art of Renga," at Cyberculture and the Humanities at Macon State University. He wrote several poems including "Schoolhouse Window Sill," "Seder Prayers," and "Catholic School Lot," which were published in Haiku Kalendar: Priv korak u trece tisucljece. Also published was his poem, "Holy Spirit," in Mars Hill Review. His essay, "Love in the Time of Simulacra, or 'Is That You Baby, or Just Some Brilliant Disguise?'" was published in The Cresset: A Review of Literature, Arts, and Public Affairs. He received honorable mention in the World Haiku Club Essay Competition and was a finalist for the Indiana Arts Commission Writer's Grant. He serves on the Faculty Concerns Committee, the President's Advisory Council, the Technology Council, and as a faculty mentor. He is a deacon at Central Christian Church. |
