Recent Professional Activities (2002-2003)

Dr. Urschel is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Midwest Modern Language Association, the College English Association, the Conference on Christianity and Literature, and the Indiana Teachers of Writing.  She and Lynda Barnum, an English Major, presented papers and led a panel discussion on Christian symbolism in the works of Stephen King at the Mideast Christianity and Literature Conference in Dayton, Ohio, in October.  Professor Urschel's paper was titled, "Teaching Stephen King at the Christian College."  She also chaired a session on teaching English in the small liberal arts college at the College English Association national conference in St. Petersburg, Florida.  She was selected for inclusion in Who's Who in America, 58th ed.  She is a member of Central Christian Church in Huntington, Indiana, where she sings in the choir and teaches the older adult Sunday School class.  She is an active member of the Huntington Shakespeare Club.

Dr. Urschel is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Midwest Modern Language Association, and the College English Association.  She attended the College English Association conference and presented her paper entitled, "Walking the Hills: The Spiritual Quest in the Novels of Sharyn McCrumb and Lee Smith."  She also attended the CIC Dean's and Department Chair Workshop.  She served as chair of the Humane Studies Division and is a member of the local Shakespeare Club.

Recent Professional Activities (2000-2001)

Professor Uschel is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, the Midwest Modern Language Association, and the Indiana English Association. and the Indiana English Association.  She attended the College Composition Winter Workshop on Technology and the Teaching of Literature.  She gave a presentation, "Sharon McCrumb's The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter: A Spiritual Odyssey," at the second annual Appalachian Women's Conference in Zanesville, Ohio.  She was chosen for the 2000 edition of Whose Who Among American Teachers and was honored as the 2001 Huntington College Professor of the Year.  She served as Division Chair, chair of the Faculty Workshop Committee, member of the Divisional Realignment Committee, and she is a mentor to a new faculty member.  She is a member of the local Shakespeare Club.  She is a member of the staff relations committee, teacher, and choir member at Central Christian Church.
