ERC BUSINESS PROFILE: WANE TV Huntington University’s Enterprise Resource Center is all about providing opportunities. While these experiential learning opportunities typically focus on students, businesses also receive benefits. Fort Wayne’s WANE TV provides internships for students pursuing careers in broadcasting. “Occasionally we spot talent that we may be interested in down the road,” said Ted Linn, news director for WANE TV. When senior broadcasting major Todd Stapleton wanted a broadcasting internship, he looked no further than Huntington’s ERC. “I had a couple of Huntington students inquire about internships, and in the case of Todd Stapleton, we made it happen,” Linn said. “If Todd and other students come through the Enterprise Resource Center, then that sounds like Huntington’s effective version of placing students in real workplace environments.” And that is the goal of the ERC—to give students a taste of post-graduation life and to provide practical experience that will give them a leg up in the competitive job market. “It is time for the student to take their classroom knowledge and TV news interest and put it to work for them,” Linn said. The ERC will continue to make opportunities for experiences in the workplace for any student who wants it. And as long as businesses like WANE TV are interested, students will continue to have that experience that may land them that much-needed job upon graduation. The Enterprise Resource Center at Huntington University – we’re all about pairing Huntington University students with area businesses for internships, practicum experiences, class projects and special projects. |
