Program Description
The Bachelor of Science Degree (128 credits) is offered in four major concentrations. Click below for more information about each degree program:

The curriculum is published in a series of Student Guides with detailed assignments for each week, thus helping you plan your study schedule. [View course lists.]

Students in the bachelor's degree program will have earned two years of college credits prior to entering the Program. Courses in the Core curriculum and elective courses are taken to complete the bachelor of science degree requirements. [Click here for bachelor degree requirements.]

The Applied Business Research Project
An applied business research project sets EXCEL apart from other adult college programs.  It is designed and conducted by each student. Each student chooses a topic related to work or community interests and develops it. The business research project has the following purposes:

  • To develop research skills needed to locate information on which to base sound decisions.

  • To develop professional writing skills.

  • To develop oral presentation skills.

  • To develop a new area of expertise of value to the student on the job or in the community.

  • To prepare students for graduate school.

DISTINCTIVES OF THE EXCEL PROGRAM

Integrated Curriculum
The EXCEL Program is unique in the sense that an integrated curriculum approach is offered for some cohort groups, combining both associate degree and bachelor degree students. They proceed through the curriculum, separating for courses specific to their degrees.

Tuition Deferment
Huntington University works with area employers to provide an employer assisted payment plan. Students whose employers offer tuition assistance are permitted to defer tuition payment until completion of the course, thus reducing up-front out-of-pocket expenses.

Business Research Project
The EXCEL Program at Huntington University is the only college in the area to require an applied business research project in the bachelor degree program. Students can demonstrate to their employers the problem-solving capabilities they have acquired. Companies can benefit from this by having a business problem solved by one of their own employees under the guidance of a business research advisor. Projects can lead to a problem intervention, change in policy, or grant proposal to solve the problem.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HUNTINGTON'S EXCEL PROGRAM

The EXCEL Program is an integral part of Huntington University (Huntington, Indiana). Since 1897, Huntington University has provided higher education with a purpose: to equip men and women to impact our world for Christ.

Degrees are offered for working adults whose schedules preclude taking traditional daytime courses, whose motivation for pursuing a degree program is strong, and whose experiences can contribute to cooperative learning styles. Credit for prior learning and by examination can be awarded.

The faculty is comprised of Huntington University's full-time professors and business leaders who serve as adjunct faculty. They are prepared to work with adult students. Faculty and students share illustrations in class from their real-world experiences, making each class a stimulating and valuable learning experience.

The EXCEL curriculum presented is sequential and accelerated in format. Classes meet from 6 to 10 p.m. one evening per week on the Huntington University campus or at the Huntington University Adult Education Site in Columbia City. One course is taken at a time, and students register as a cohort group and progress through the program together.

The EXCEL Program offers five degree programs:

In addition, EXCEL also offers the Gateway college courses for adults, consisting of Core and elective classes.
