Go ED. Africa
Go
ED. Africa, a semester-long program that integrates
academic work, service, and spiritual formation, is the result of a
partnership between Huntington University and Food
for the Hungry. Based out of Kampala, Uganda, and
Kigali, Rwanda, the
program gives students opportunities to study and participate in a field
experience in Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, or Kenya.
Eligibility
Participating students should be full-time juniors or seniors with a minimum
cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students
applying to Go ED. from another institution must also meet the
eligibility standards of their home institution.
Academics
Designed to illustrate the complex relationship of scholarship with
practical experience, Go ED. academic courses seek to furnish
students with the ability to think critically and act realistically within
the context of God’s redemptive work in the world.
Participants are required to take courses in economic development in
Africa and traditional African culture and religion. Additionally, students may choose to take one of several
additional courses, including peace-building within the context of genocide
and religious diversity, ecological sustainability and development,
Ethiopian history, post-colonial African literature, or introductory
Swahili.
Practical Field Experience
As Go ED. seeks to integrate scholarship with applied experience,
the program offers students various opportunities to serve with Food for
the Hungry’s various ministries. Participants pursue a four-week
service practicum in one of the four participating counties: Uganda, Rwanda,
Ethiopia, or Kenya. Moreover, various field trips, work
projects, and a two week home-stay with an African family all contribute to
a powerful change in perspective and a greater understanding of how
knowledge and service work together.
