example Mr. Carnegie has set…” FOR RELEASE -- March 8, 2001 HUNTINGTON, IN— The first spring meeting of the Huntington College History Seminar will be Monday, March 12, 2001, 7:30 pm, in the Atrium of the RichLyn Library at Huntington College. Mr. Chuck Backus, Executive Director of Historic Forks of the Wabash in Huntington, will be presenting findings from his study "'...the example Mr. Carnegie has set': The Philanthropy of Andrew Carnegie." The paper, part of Mr. Backus' work toward a master’s degree in Historical Administration at Eastern Illinois University (Charleston IL), studies the origin and implications of the Carnegie free library program. Carnegie libraries across Indiana—such as the one in Huntington—are celebrating or are soon to celebrate centennials. “This will be an excellent opportunity to learn more about the pioneering program that brought these well-known institutions into our communities,” said Dr. Paul Michelson of the Huntington College Department of History.
