Verba garners Athlete of Week honor

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athlete of the Week for the week of January 6 – 13, 2003. Men’s basketball freshman Chase Verba earned the honor for his excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Verba, an undecided major from Angola, Ind. (Angola High School), was key to the Foresters’ success as they opened the Mid-Central Conference season last week with a 2-0 record. In Tuesday’s match-up at St. Francis, Verba had a team-high 12 rebounds, shooting 3-6 with six points and one block. Most impressive was his uncanny defensive skills that held Chase Holden, the Cougars’ leading scorer, to only four points. In Saturday’s victory against Goshen, Verba shot a perfect 10-10 from the field and 1-1 from the line for a career high 21 points. Once again, he took team high honors with seven rebounds and added four assists and one steal. The Foresters currently post a 16-3 record (2-0 MCC) heading into Tuesday’s home match-up with Marian.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 39 All-America honors and 67 All-America Scholar Athlete honors.
