Malfait, Caldwell earn Athlete of the Week honors

HUNTINGTON, IN— The
Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the
Week for the week of October 7 – 13, 2002. Volleyball
freshman Tiffany Malfait and soccer
junior Luke Caldwell earned the honors for their excellent efforts during
the week’s competitions.
Malfait,
an undecided major from Woodburn, Ind. (Woodlan High School), was named to
the Judson Invitational All-Tournament Volleyball Team. The Foresters
recorded a 2-1 record at the tournament for third place. Malfait garnered
15 blocks and 10 kills over the three matches to earn her spot on the
tournament team. For the week she led the Foresters in blocks with 21. On
the season, she is averaging a team-high 1.3 blocks per game and
contributing 1.6 kills per game. The Foresters are now 10-15 on the
season.
Caldwell,
a junior psychology major
from Mansfield, Ohio (Mansfield Christian High School) tallied one goal
and four assists in the men’s soccer 1-0-1 week. On Tuesday, Caldwell
scored his loan goal of the week and assisted older brother Tim twice and
teammate Scott Samson on the fourth and final goal of 4-0 shutout game
versus Bluffton College. In Thursday’s 1-1 tie with Marian, Caldwell
assisted teammate Tyler Radcliff in the 40th minute. The
Foresters now stand at 5-7-1 on the season.
