Soccer seniors named Athlete of the Week
FOR RELEASE October 21, 2002
HUNTINGTON, IN— The
Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the
Week for the week of October 14 – 20, 2002. Women’s
Soccer senior Erin Abbey and men’s
soccer senior Tim Caldwell earned the honors for their excellent
efforts during the week’s competitions.
Abbey,
an educational ministries
major from Millbury, Ohio, (Lake High School) is the first two-time
recipient of the award. She
received the honor for the first time for the week of September 2-8.
This past week, Abbey led the women’s soccer team to a 1-1 record
for the week. On October 16,
she scored a goal off an assist from Mindy Sincler in the Foresters’ 3-1
victory over the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College.
In the Foresters’ October 19 match against the University of St.
Francis, she netted her second goal of the week and dished out an assist
to teammate, Christi Shook. Abbey
also recorded five shots on goal for the week.
The women’s soccer team is currently 9-6 overall, 4-2 in the
conference. Abbey is also an NAIA All-American track and field runner for
the Foresters, a two-time NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete, a member of
Alpha Chi, a member of Chi Alpha Sigma (the athletic honor society at HC),
and a four-time Dean’s List honoree.
Caldwell,
a senior recreation management
major from Mansfield, Ohio (Mansfield Christian High School) tallied six
points for the week for the men’s soccer team.
Caldwell, a co-captain on the team, scored two goals, dished out
two assists to his brother Luke, and had eight shots on goal to help lead
the Foresters to a 1-1 record for the week.
The Foresters now stand at 6-8-1 on the season.
Caldwell is also a Resident Assistant in Wright Hall and was
elected as student body president.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14
intercollegiate sports for men and women. In the past six years,
Huntington has produced 38 All-America honors and 60 All-America Scholar
