Athlete of
the Week honors go to Gordon, Ngure

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department
announced its
Athletes of the Week for the week of February 10-16, 2003. Women’s
basketball senior Sarah Gordon and men’s track
senior John Ngure earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the
week’s competitions.
Gordon,
a history education major
from Wolcottville, Ind. (Prairie Heights High
School), averaged 25.5 points per game in two games during the week.
Against Bethel on Wednesday, she shot 9-of-17 from the field, going
4-for-5 from behind the arc and totaling seven rebounds, three assists and
two steals. In the match-up versus Grace, Gordon carried the team with 28
points, six steals and four assists. She also broke her own school record
for most three-point field goals made in a season. The old record of 81
now stands at 85. Gordon is a dean’s list honoree. The Lady Foresters are
12-14 on the season.
Ngure,
an exercise science major from Thaika, Kenya, led the Forester track and
field team with 18 points at the DePauw University Indoor Invitational.
Ngure placed first in the men’s 5000 meter run with a time of 15:22.79, 33
seconds quicker than the runner-up. He also finished second in the men’s
3000 meter run with a time of 8:52.22. Both times meet the NAIA Indoor
National Track and Field Championships provisional mark.
Ngure is an eight-time All-American runner
for the Foresters. He’s earned three cross country All-American honors and
five track and field All-American honors.
The
Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men
and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 39 All-America
honors and 67 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian
