Abbey, Ngure
earn Athlete of the Week honors

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its
Athletes of the Week for the week of March 3-9, 2003.
Women’s track and field senior Erin Abbey and men’s
track and field
senior John Ngure earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the
week’s competitions.
Abbey,
an
educational
ministries major from Millbury, Ohio (Lake
High School), competed
in the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Johnson City,
Tenn., on Friday. She had qualified in the long jump, and going into the
national competition, she was seeded 15th. Abbey finished the competition
in ninth place after a leap of 17' 06.25."
She is a three-time All-American
Scholar Athlete recipient and earned All-American honors on the track last
spring in the 4x800 meter relay. Abbey is a member of the
Alpha Chi National
Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma (the athletic honor society), and has
earned many Dean’s List honors.
Ngure,
an exercise science major from
Thaika, Kenya, earned his
ninth All-American honor as a Forester at the NAIA Indoor Track and Field
National Championships in Johnson City, Tenn., on Saturday. He was ranked
18th going into the 5000 meter race. Ngure qualified to the finals after
finishing ninth in the semi-finals on Friday. In the championship race, he
ran his best time of the season at 14:52.58, and finished third overall.
Ngure has now earned three All-American honors in cross country and six
All-American honors in track.
The
Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men
and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 39 All-America
honors and 67 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian
