FOR RELEASE
March 10,
2003
HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its
Athletes of the Week for the week of March 17-23, 2003.
Women’s track and field senior Natalie Guenin and men’s
track and field
senior John Ngure earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the
week’s competitions.
Guenin,
an
elementary education major from
Wabash, Ind. (Northfield High School),
finished third in the 10,000
meter run at the Florida State Relays on Friday, March 21. Her time of
38:28.60 earned her an automatic qualification to the NAIA National
Outdoor Track and Field Championships and crushed the Huntington College
school record in that event by 45 seconds. The previous record, held by
Jen Reinking, was 39:13.24. Guenin is no stranger to the national
scene as she has competed on that level in cross country on three
occasions and in track this past indoor season. She
is also a stand out in the classroom as she
has received Dean’s List honors and is a member of the
Kappa Delta Pi education honor society.
Ngure,
an exercise science major from
Thika, Kenya, ran a
commanding 10,000 meter race at the Florida State Relays to open his
senior outdoor season. His winning time of 31:01.87 bested competitors
from various Division I programs while earning him an automatic
qualification to the NAIA National Outdoor Track and Field
Championships.
Ngure is a nine-time All-American between cross country and track for the
Foresters.
The
Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men
and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 39 All-America
honors and 67 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a comprehensive Christian
