Skibbe, Miles earn Athlete of the Week honors

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletics department announced its
Athletes of the Week for the week of April 7-13, 2003. Women’s
softball freshman Michelle Skibbe and
men’s
tennis
senior Jacob Miles earned
the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.
Skibbe,
an elementary education
major from
New Paris, Ind. (Fairfield
High School), picked up two conference wins on the
mound against Goshen and Grace. In a 3-0 shutout versus Goshen, Skibbe
pitched seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out
three. In a 9-7 victory over Grace, she again pitched a complete game,
striking out three. At the plate for the Foresters, Skibbe garnered five
hits in four games, including one double. Her opponents walked her twice
and she went a perfect two-for-two in stolen bases. Skibbe is also a
member of the Forester volleyball
team.
Miles,
an educational ministries
major from
London, Ont. (A.S. Lucas
Secondary School),
went undefeated in tennis
action. Back from knee surgery from the fall season, Miles has picked up
where he left off last spring. Miles teamed with Michael Christner in no.
1 doubles against Anderson to pick up an 8-3 victory. He then won his no.
1 singles match, 6-3, 6-1. Versus Defiance, Miles and Brandon Ecker played
at the no. 1 doubles position and won, 8-2. Miles later picked up his
fourth victory of the week in no. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-2. The men's tennis
team is currently 3-0 this spring, 9-3 overall. Miles is an All-American
Scholar Athlete, a member of the athletic honor society, Chi Alpha
Sigma,
and a Dean's List honoree. Last spring, he earned the Huntington College
Service Leadership Award. He is a group leader for the Huntington Kids
Club, a volunteer leader for the Lighthouse Church youth group and holds
leadership positions with various ministry outreaches on campus.
The
Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men
and women. In the past six years, Huntington has produced 43 All-America
honors and 69 All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a
