Auburn, Ind., will deliver the baccalaureate address to graduates and

in the Merillat Centre for the Arts main auditorium. The annual
commencement address, held on the campus’ front lawn at 3 p.m., will be

served as a part-time professor of business law at Huntington College. On
three consecutive occasions, he has been elected DeKalb County Circuit
Court Judge. He has also served two terms as DeKalb County Prosecuting

several high profile cases of complex litigation. He was named Sagamore of
the Wabash, Indiana’s highest civilian award, by the governor of Indiana.

Maestro
Nelson is a versatile and highly accomplished conductor, serving as Music
Director with the Indianapolis Symphony, the Opera Theatre of St. Louis,
the Caramoor Music Festival in New York and now L’Ensemble orchestral de
Paris. Maestro Nelson won the Irving Berlin Prize in conducting while
studying at the Juilliard School. He has appeared with major orchestras
including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the
Philadelphia Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of Boston,
Chicago,
Cleveland, Pittsburgh
and San Francisco. Maestro Nelson has been engaged with numerous European
and Australian orchestras and has conducted the New Japan Philharmonic,
the Hong Kong Philharmonic and the Shanghai Philharmonic. He made his
professional opera debut at the New York City Opera in 1972, in Carmen
and his Metropolitan Opera debut in 1974, in Les Troyens. He has
conducted opera in major companies around the world including the Chicago
Lyric Opera, Santa Fe Opera, the Bastille Opera, Lyon Opera, Rome Opera,
La Monnaie, the Netherlands Opera and the Welsh National Opera. Central to
Maestro Nelson’s work is the interpretations of the great sacred choral
literature. His commitment to this repertoire and his concern for the lack
of 20th century sacred works led him to found SOLI DEO GLORIA,
Inc., a non-profit organization which encourages composers and conductors
to promote great sacred works in our time. Maestro Nelson has earned a
Grammy Award for Handel’s Semele and a Diapason d’Or de l’annee for
