Allen, Yoder are Forester Athletes of the Week

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of January 12-18, 2004. Women’s basketball senior Lane Allen and men’s basketball senior Derek Yoder earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.


Lane Allen

Lane Allen, a chemistry major from Richmond, Ind. (Centerville High School), helped lead the Foresters to a 2-0 record for the week.  Allen began the week scoring 23 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in Huntington’s thrilling 75-72 double-overtime victory against Marian College.  Allen went 10-16 from the field and 3-5 from the line in the game.  On Saturday, she helped lead the women to a 65-61 upset win over NAIA Division II 17th-ranked Bethel College on the road.  Allen scored 13 points and added a team-high six rebounds. The Foresters are now 11-7 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.  The women next travel to Winona Lake to take on the Grace College Lancers on Wednesday, January 21, at 7:00 p.m.


Derek Yoder

Derek Yoder, a psychology major from Shipshewana, Ind. (Westview High School), played a big role in the Foresters’ two conference wins.  For the week he scored 32 points on 14-22 shooting, including 4-9 from behind the arc.  In Tuesday’s game against the NAIA Division II 6th-ranked Marian College Knights, Yoder scored 11 points on 5-7 shooting, and on Saturday, he led the team in scoring with 21 points on 9-15 shooting in the Foresters’ 81-78 win over Bethel College.  The Foresters are now 16-4 on the season and 3-1 in conference play.  They next host Grace College on Tuesday, January 20 at 7:00 p.m.
