Allen, Riegsecker garner Athlete of the Week honors

The Huntington College athletic department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of February 2-8, 2004. Women’s basketball senior Lane Allen and men’s basketball junior Justin Riegsecker earned the honors for their outstanding efforts during the week.


Lane Allen

Lane Allen, a chemistry major from Richmond, Ind. (Centerville High School), helped lead the Foresters to a 1-1 record for the week.  Allen began the week scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds in Huntington’s 78-58 loss on the road to Goshen College.  Allen went 6-13 from the field and 4-4 from the line in the game.  On Saturday, she took game-high honors with her 18 points in the Foresters 58-55 win at Marian College.  Allen added a team-high seven rebounds and a steal in the contest. The Forester women are now 14-10 on the season and 5-5 in conference play.  Huntington next hosts Bethel College on Wednesday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m.


Justin Riegsecker

Justin Riegsecker, a business management major from Wauseon, Ohio (Pettisville High School), made the most of his insertion into the starting lineup this week, helping lead the team to a 2-0 week in Mid-Central Conference play.  On Tuesday, Riegsecker scored a team-high 16 points in Huntington’s 77-59 win over Goshen.  He went 6-15 from the field, including 4-9 from behind the arc and added four rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal.  In Saturday’s 72-67 upset of the NAIA Division II 6th-ranked Marian College Knights, Riegsecker shared team-high scoring honors with his 15 points in the game.  He was 3-6 from the field and 8-9 from the line.  The 18th-ranked Forester men are 20-6 on the season and 7-3 in the conference.  Huntington next travels to Mishawaka to take on the Bethel College Pilots on Tuesday, February 10, at 7:00 p.m.
