Hanson, Doyle honored as Forester Athletes of the Week
FOR RELEASE May 3, 2004
Kellie Hanson, an
elementary education major from
Mishawaka, Ind. (Penn
High School), led the Lady Foresters with its only
first-place finish at the Mid-Central Conference Championships at Goshen
College.
Seeded
third going into the discus event, Hanson fought through the difficult wet
and slippery throwing conditions due to a steady downpour of rain to steal
the win with a toss of 108 feet 5 inches. She was one of two Lady
Foresters named to the MCC All-Conference team.
The Foresters finished
fourth out of an eight-team field with 108 points.
Jonathan Doyle, an exercise science major from Boardman, Ohio (Boardman High School), had an outstanding individual performance at the Mid-Central Conference Track and Field Championships on the weekend. Doyle, who had already qualified to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 110 high hurdles, was the MCC champion in that event. His victory at 14.96 seconds marked his first time under 15 seconds in the event and broke the facility record at Goshen College. Doyle also met NAIA national qualification standards in the 400 hurdles with a third-place effort in 54.90 seconds. He will compete in both the 110 high hurdles and the 400 hurdles at the NAIA Outdoor National Track and Field Championships in Louisville, Ky., in late May.
