Grill, Hamilton earn Athlete of the Week honors

HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College athletics department announced its Athletes of the Week for the week of September 15-21, 2003. Women’s cross country senior Jenny Grill and men’s soccer junior Courtney Hamilton earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the week’s competitions.

Jenny Grill

Jenny Grill, an elementary education major from Gregory, Mich. (Fowlerville High School), led the Forester cross country team to a ninth-place finish of the Little State Championships at the Indiana Intercollegiates held at Indiana State University. Grill finished 17th with a team-best time of 19:46. The Little State Championships include NCAA Division II and III schools along with NAIA schools. Overall, including NCAA Division I schools, the Foresters finished 14th as a team and Grill crossed the line in 61st position. Grill is a Dean’s List honoree. The Foresters will travel to the University of Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday, September 27.

Courtney Hamilton

Courtney Hamilton, a business management major from Tobago in Trinidad and Tobago, played a key role in the Foresters’ 2-1 victory over Olivet College in Michigan on Saturday. Hamilton recorded seven saves in goal as the Foresters were out-shot 20-15, with Olivet taking five corner kicks on the day. Hamilton, an NAIA Honorable Mention All-American from last season, has been consistent in the net all season. In Tuesday’ loss to Grace College, he recorded six saves. The Foresters host Bethel College on Wednesday, September 24, at 3:30 p.m.

The Huntington College Foresters compete in 14 intercollegiate sports for men and women and hold membership in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In the past seven years, Huntington has produced 45 NAIA All-American honors and 71 All-American Scholar Athlete honors.
