HUNTINGTON, IN— The Huntington College
athletics department announced its
Athletes of the Week for the week of September 1-7, 2003.
Women’s tennis
junior Stacy Plett and men’s
cross country runners Joseph Waithira and
Cody Hannie earned the honors for their excellent efforts during the
week’s competitions.
Stacy
Plett, a recreation management major from Rensselaer,
Ind. (Rensselaer Central High School), led the Forester tennis
squad to an 8-1 victory over St. Francis in the Mid-Central Conference
opener of the season. Plett won the #4 singles match, 6-1, 6-1.
In #2 doubles, she teamed with Lindsey Weber to blank St. Francis,
8-0. The Foresters are now 1-2 on the season, 1-0 in MCC action.
Plett is also a member of the women's basketball team.
Joseph
Waithira, a sophomore exercise science major from Nairobi, Kenya,
and Cody Hannie, a freshman English education
major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), teamed together to
finish sixth overall at the opening cross country meet of the season,
Hokum Karem Invitational at Wabash College. This unique cross country race
teams two members of a squad together in a relay. Each runner takes three
laps around a one-mile loop, exchanging a baton with
their teammate between each lap. Waithira and Hannie led the
Foresters to a fourth-place team finish. Their time for the six-mile race
was 29
minutes,
15 seconds.
The Huntington College Foresters compete in
14 intercollegiate sports for men and women and hold membership in the
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). In the past
seven years, Huntington has produced 45 All-America honors and 71
All-America Scholar Athlete honors. Huntington College is a comprehensive

programs in more than 60 academic concentrations.
