College to host second annual Forester Basketball Camp
FOR RELEASE April 30, 2004 Steve Platt, head coach of the Huntington College men’s basketball team, serves as camp director while his son Ty Platt, head coach of the Norwell High School boy’s basketball team, serves as assistant camp director. “Last year’s Forester basketball camp was a tremendous success. This year’s camp promises to once again be fundamentally driven, stressing hard work in a fun, Christ-centered atmosphere,” said Steve Platt. The campers will be given individual instruction by a professional staff of college players, including members of the Forester 2004 National Tournament Sweet Sixteen team. Fundamentals will be taught and stressed through player evaluation and daily games and contests, all within a Christian atmosphere. Each camper will receive a camp t-shirt and the opportunity to receive Huntington College Basketball prizes. Times and costs of the camp are: Age (grade entering next fall) Time Cost Kindergarten through Fourth grade 1:30-3:00 p.m. $75/camper Fifth grade through Seventh grade 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. $85/camper Eighth grade through Tenth grade 8 a.m.-10 a.m. $85/camper Steve Platt has served as the Huntington College men’s basketball coach for ten seasons, compiling a 224-111 overall record. During that time he has led his teams to three MCC tournament championships, two MCC regular season championships and four national tournament appearances, including one final four appearance, two elite eight appearances and four sweet sixteen appearances. He has coached his athletes to 16 All-American honors, 25 All-MCC honors and four MCC Player of the Year honors. As a player at Huntington College from 1970-1974, Platt was a four-time NAIA All-American and a four-time All-District Player of the Year. He still holds the Indiana Collegiate Scoring record at 3,700 points and was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996, and the NAIA Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. Ty Platt has been the Norwell High School boy’s basketball coach for 11 years, compiling over 100 wins. He has coordinated and ran numerous basketball camps and has spoken at various camps and clinics. Platt has also seen his share of success as he has won Coach of the Year honors and led his team to a conference title and a sectional title.
