Five Foresters to compete at
NAIA Indoor Track & Field Nationals

HUNTINGTON, IN—Five Huntington College track and field athletes qualified to the NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships to be held March 4-6, 2004, in Johnson City, Tenn. Jonathan Doyle, Joseph Waithira, Cody Hannie, Nicole Jacob and Jenny Grill all met qualifying times in their respective races that were set by the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) at the beginning of the season.

Jonathan Doyle, a senior exercise science major from Boardman, Ohio (Boardman High School), qualified in the 55 meter high hurdles with a time of 7.96 seconds at DePauw University on February 14. Doyle, who is seeded 25^th, will run prelims at 1:20 p.m., on Friday. Semi-finals will follow on Friday at 2:40 p.m., with finals on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. This marks Doyle’s third appearance on the national scene.
 

Joseph Waithira, a sophomore exercise science major from Nairobi, Kenya, qualified in the 3000 meter run. Waithira's time in the 3200 meters on February 21, at the Huntington College Frozen Forest Invitational met converted provisional qualification times in the 3000 meter run. Waithira, seeded 31^st with a time of 9:04.14, will run the 3000 meter semi-finals in Johnson City on Friday at 5:40 p.m. Finals are set for Saturday at 2:20 p.m. This is Waithira’s first time competing at the national level.

Cody Hannie, a freshman English education major from Fort Wayne, Ind. (Snider High School), qualified in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:34.24 at Findlay University on January 31. Hannie, who is seeded 16^th, will run in the semi-final on Friday at 4:55 p.m. Finals are set for Saturday at 1:55 p.m. This marks Hannie’s debut to the national scene.
 

Jenny Grill, a senior elementary education major from Gregory, Mich. (Fowlerville High School), qualified in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:05.60 at DePauw University on February 14. Grill is currently seeded 11^th in the race. She is an All-American from the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in 2002. This is her fourth time running on the national scene between track and cross country.

 

Nicole Jacob, a senior psychology major from Van Wert, Ohio (Van Wert High School), also met the qualifying time in the women’s 1000 meter run with a time of 3:07.11 on February 14 at DePauw University. Jacob is seeded 16^th in the race. Grill and Jacob will run the semi-final race at 4:40 p.m., on Friday. Finals are set for Saturday at 1:45 p.m. This marks Jacob’s second time competing at the national level between track and cross country.
