Six Foresters head to NAIA Track Nationals
FOR RELEASE May 25, 2004 Jonathan Doyle, David St. Louis, Brittany Fillman, Courtney Gullickson, Nicole Jacob and Brooke Welch all met qualifying times set by the NAIA in their respective races during the outdoor season.
Jonathan Doyle, a senior exercise science
major from Boardman,
Ohio (Boardman High School), is making his
fourth appearance in national competition. He qualified in two events,
the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 14.96 seconds coming at
the Mid-Central Conference (MCC) Championships on April 30, and the 400
meter hurdles with a time of 54.90 seconds also set at the MCC meet. Doyle, who
is seeded 24th in the 110 high hurdles and 29th in the 400 hurdles, will
run both prelims on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.,
and 5:45 p.m.,
respectively. Semi-finals for the high hurdles will take place on Friday
at 1:00 p.m., followed by the finals at 4:35 p.m. The 400 hurdle
semi-finals are scheduled for 5:25 p.m.,
on Friday, with the finals set for
4:10 p.m., on Saturday. The four women, freshman Brittany Fillman (Markle, Ind./Norwell), sophomore Courtney Gullickson (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest), senior Nicole Jacob (Van Wert, Ohio/Van Wert), and senior Brooke Welch (Berne, Ind./South Adams) qualified in the women’s 3200 meter relay with a time of 9:40.19, also set at the MCC Championships on April 30. This is the second opportunity for Jacob and Welch to compete in a national track and field event, while Gullickson and Fillman are making their inaugural appearance. The team enters the national competition as the 16th seed and will run in the prelims on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Finals are set for Friday at 6:20 p.m. The Forester track and field teams are coached by Tom King.
