Local students cast in "The Diary of Anne Frank"
FOR RELEASE February 13, 1998
HUNTINGTON, IN This month, eleven Huntington College students will portray a life of hiding, serving as a window into the life of a young girl who experienced the nightmare of the holocaust. The student-directed production of The Diary of Anne Frank will be presented February 25-28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Studio Theatre of the Merillat Centre for the Arts.
Dawn Davis, a senior theatre major from Wawaka, Ind., is directing the show. "Anne Franks story is very personal to me because of my own Jewish heritage. Ive wanted to tell it for a long time," said Davis. "I feel, like many others, that the events of the Holocaust must continue to be portrayed, least this history be forgotten or repeated. I hope this show will allow the audience to experience life in hiding in a way that will never leave them, and that it will be an honest, unflinching depiction of what went on." Davis' maternal grandfather was a Latvian Jew who fled Stalin's regime and immigrated to the United States.
Davis returned to campus this January after spending the fall semester as an intern. She was one of two Huntington College students studying at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center in Hollywood, CA. Her previous directing credits include Waiting For Godot (1997 independent student production), and The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (1997 Huntington College One Act Play Festival).
